Why should I volunteer?
The Deutsche Bank Championship depends on volunteers to make it a success; we rely on over 1,500 volunteers not only during the Championship, but also in the weeks leading up. It would not be possible to run the Championship without the thousands of hours provided by volunteers such as yourself. In 2003, the inaugural Deutsche Bank Championship set a PGA TOUR record of $1.5 million for the highest charitable contribution by a first year event. Since 2003 volunteers have helped us to raise a total of $10 million for our primary recipient, the Tiger Woods Learning Center along with many local New England Charities. As a volunteer, you receive a credential for admission the entire Championship week, allowing you to enjoy Championship access even when you are not working. You will also gain the benefit of working behind the scenes of a successful PGA TOUR event.

Are there minimum volunteer requirements?
Volunteers will be required to purchase the volunteer package for $75 (a $350 value) that must be worn during scheduled working hours. As part of the volunteer package, you will receive the volunteer uniform, lunch vouchers, parking pass and a credential valid for all seven days of the Championship and a guest pass for one day. The volunteer uniform will consist of one (1) Championship logoed golf shirt, one (1) Championship logoed windshirt and a hat or visor. Women may wear their own khaki pants, skirts or shorts of appropriate length. Men are encouraged to wear their own khaki pants, but if it is extremely hot, khaki shorts of appropriate length may be worn.

Volunteers also are requested to commit a minimum of 24 volunteer hours to the Championship. The exact schedule varies by committee, but typically breaks down to approximately 6 hours a day over 4 days. Committees may have other requirements; such as submitting to a DMV records check so that permission may be given to operate a motor vehicle during Championship week. The Captains will be able to answer any questions regarding scheduling or additional requirements for their specific committee.

What are the Championship dates?
The Championship will be held place Labor Day weekend at the Tournament Players Club Boston the week of August 26- September 1, 2008. The majority of volunteer hours will occur during these dates, however, some committees operate a few days prior to and after championship week.

What is included in the volunteer package and what is the total cost?
The 2008 volunteer package consists of the following Championship logoed apparel: a golf shirt, a jacket, and either a cap or a visor. Volunteers must provide their own khaki slacks, which are required to complete the volunteer uniform. The package also includes a weeklong credential for admission to the Championship, a weekly volunteer parking pass, a grounds pass to bring a guest along for the day of your choice, lunch vouchers and continental breakfast on the days that you work, and a copy of the volunteer handbook. In addition to the volunteer package, each volunteer will be invited to join us at our Sunday Celebration Concert on Sunday, August 31 and our Volunteer and Charity Appreciation Party in November. The volunteer uniform package is priced at $75.

How do I volunteer?
To register as a volunteer for the Deutsche Bank Championship simply fill out our Online Registration form or call us for a manual application form. When completing your information you will be asked to select your first, second and third choice committee placements. Completing the volunteer application will automatically register you as a Volunteer. Positions within each committee will be filled according to the date of the registration. If we are not able to fulfill your committee choices, a volunteer support person will contact you to discuss other committee options that may be of interest to you.

Can I still volunteer if I cannot commit to the 24-hour minimum volunteer requirement?
Volunteers will not be turned away, but priority is given to applicants who can commit a minimum of 24 hours to the Championship. A volunteer application will not be turned away, however, most Committee Chairpersons are looking for volunteers with flexible availability when developing their Championship week schedules. If you cannot commit to 24 hours, your name will still be added to the waitlist with this specification included. You may still be contacted to volunteer, however, the Championship office is only able to give appreciation vouchers to volunteers who complete the 24-hour minimum requirement.

How do I know if I have been selected to be a volunteer for the event?
Each person who fills out an application will become a member of the Volunteer Program also known as the DBC's Blue Crew. If openings in your first choice committee are not available at the time of your registration then you will be placed into your second choice. A committee Captain or Chairman will contact you some time during the summer to confirm your committee and review scheduling and training information. Positions within each committee will be based on the date that your registration is submitted as well as seniority. Payment for the Volunteer Package is required to hold your position within a specific committee. Each volunteer is required to re-register each year for the committee of their choice as positions will not be assumed.

Is a volunteer position on committee of choice guaranteed?
Though it is not guaranteed that each volunteer will get his/her first choice, we do our best to make sure that each volunteer is happy with the position that they are assigned. If you are not selected for your first, second or third choice committee, a volunteer support person will contact you to discuss other options. If you are not satisfied with the options available at that time, we will be sure that you are fully refunded for your volunteer package.

Volunteer Committee Descriptions

COMMITTEE DESCRIPTIONS

The following lists a brief description of the volunteer committees and functions supporting the Deutsche Bank Championship. Depending on the committee, volunteers may be required before, during, or after Championship week. A variety of committee openings typically become available, but specific openings are not guaranteed. Several committees schedule mandatory training sessions prior to Championship Week in order to familiarize volunteers with their specific duties.

KID ZONES: Kids Zones were a new part of the Deutsche Bank Championship for the 2005 season. This program includes specially designed Parent/Child viewing areas along with a Kids Village which includes lots of fun and interactive games for families to enjoy together. The Kids Zone Committee Volunteers will act as, and work directly with, the marshals for these zones helping to maintain and regulate the appropriate spectator etiquette among both parents and children. This committee will also be responsible for assisting in the functioning of the Kids Village events and games. In order for children to participate in daily activities, parental supervision is required. There is no babysitting of any kind involved in this job.

CARTS MANAGEMENT: The Carts Management Committee (CMC) is responsible for all carts used on course through the span of the Championship. These responsibilities include player and/or official scorer shuttles, cart distribution & collection to staff and volunteers, special needs shuttles throughout the course and cart yard management. This role also assists in cart control and the maintenance of a safe operating environment.

CHAMPIONSHIP OFFICE STAFF: The Championship Office is the hub of information during the Duetsche Bank Championship. This committee will enable you to work in the Championship Office prior to and during the event. Responsibilities include directing phone calls, assisting with mailings, fielding spectator, volunteer and player questions and assisting the Championship staff.

CHAMPIONSHIP SUPPORT: The Championship Support committee is responsible for troubleshooting through out the course of the Championship week. This committee supervises player food and beverage at both the 1st and 10th tee, assists in the operational aspects of the Championship as needed, assists in the organization and staffing of the Deutsche Bank Championship Kids Clinic and helps out in any other way needed. Knowledge of golf, and the operation of a Championship is helpful but not required for this committee. Starters also register under Championship support.

CORPORATE HOSPITALITY: The Corporate Hospitality Committee is responsible for assisting Championship Headquarters and Official Sponsors in greeting and welcoming guests to each individual sponsor location and/or event. It is also the responsibility of the corporate hospitality committee to assist security to assure that all persons entering these facilities have the proper credentials.

ECOLOGY: The Ecology committee monitors waste receptacles and general grounds appearance by working directly with the Trash Management Vendor to ensure a safe and clean environment

MARSHALS: A Marshal's job is to enforce crowd control during the Championship, ensuring players safe and easy access from hole to hole and to signal the gallery for quiet as players address the ball to make their shot.

MEDIA: The Media committee works directly with the Deutsche Bank Championship's PR firm to assist in the operation of the media center. Helping to organize interviews with players, working with television and newspaper reporters and being a general help to the many people housed within the media center are just a few of the many responsibilities.

OPERATIONS: The Operations Committe will assist with the installation of on-course signage (pre-championship and post-championship). Responsibilities include but are not limited to assisting in the maintenance and appearance of the on and off course areas, using a pro-active approach and also a re-active deliverance during the championship week. The Operations Committee may also be responsible for obtaining and delivering necessary supplies to various on-course locations. An Operations Committee Volunteer should also be capable of some moderate lifting, as some of the responsibilities will involve this sort of activity.

WATER & ICE: The Water & Ice committe is responsible for the water and ice delivery to specific locations throughout the course. This committee will also work directly with each volunteer group to ensure that they are fully stocked with beverages as well. The water & ice committee will also work directly with the vendor ensuring the stock of product on hand is sufficient.

PRO AM SERVICES: This committee provides support for all aspects of the Monday & Thursday Championship pro-ams. Responsibilities include assembling/distribution of gift packs, registering amateurs, working with the Francis Ouimet Caddy program and assisting at the pairings party and awards parties.

SCORING: Responsibilities include managing the manual score boards to post the scores of the gorups approaching the greens, walking with the players to record their scores, tracking player shots as they approach of the fairway/green with the use of a trigger controlled laser and recording the information with the use of a PALM pilot . Standard bearers carry a standard sign and walk the entire course with the PGA TOUR players. Standard bearers are typically junior volunteers, under the age of 18.

SPECTATOR RELATIONS: The Spectator Relations Committee is responsible for the managment of the spectator information booths on site. Volunteers in this committee will complete a training course and be issued an information manual as to better inform them of up to date Championship and TPC information. Spectator Relations also manages sales of the official program with in each of these Spectator Information Booths.

PLAYER & SPECTATOR EXPERIENCE: (PASE) Volunteers assist with the management of on-site foot traffic and cart traffic of players, spectators, volunteers and staff in order to ensure the safety of everyone involved. Volunteers are responsible for the safe and efficient travel of players and caddies throughout the course. Crosswalk management during these times is essencial for players to meet their destination and continue the flow of play with out interuption.

TRANSPORTATION: Transportation Committee members are responsible for the pick up and drop off of players and their families throughout the course of the week. Committee members receive, inventory and control the issuance of courtesy cars. Meet players, officials and designated guests at the airport and assist them with their transportation needs. Must be over 25 years of age and have a valid driver's license. The larges need in this committee falls at beginning and end of Championship week.

UNIFORM DISTRIBUTION: Assist with the inventory and distribution of volunteer uniforms prior to the Championship. This position will also need staffing during Championship week to assist anyone needing to exchange sizes.

VOLUNTEER SERVICES: Assist in servicing volunteers during Championship week in the Volunteer Hospitality Headquarters.
