Greg Norman was the preeminent player of his generation, a Hall of Famer who won more than 60 titles around the globe. Ultimately though, the Shark's golfing legacy won't be the number of tournaments he won, it will be his golf course designs. With more than 50 courses on four continents, Greg Norman is fast becoming the dominant player in golf course architecture.

El Camaleon Golf Club at the Mayakoba resort, managed by Fairmont Hotels & Resorts is his latest masterwork. The 7,039-yard layout is unique - not just to Mexico but to the entire golfing kingdom. The course bends through three distinct landscapes - tropical jungle, dense mangroves, and oceanfront stretches of sand with holes bisected by massive limestone canals. He's even incorporated a cenote, a massive, ancient cavern common to the area, into the heart of the opening fairway. And as in all Norman projects, he has balanced the course to make it enjoyable for golfers of all abilities. From the tips, El Camaleon is a major league test, a real Shark bite. However, each hole is sprinkled with a minimum of five tee blocks, so there is a distance for every player.

While the course is a standout, the surrounding golf amenities are equally as stunning. The handsome, Mayan influenced clubhouse rises above the 18th green and the adjoining practice facility and driving range are five star. Even more amazingly, with the resort's unique canal system, golfers will be able to step out of their rooms and into a boat, which will ferry them to the first tee.

In 2007, El Camaleon made history by becoming the first golf course to host an official PGA TOUR event in Mexico. Mayakoba Classic will be held February 22-26, 2012 and will offer a purse of $3.7 million. The GOLF CHANNEL, the TOUR's exclusive cable broadcast partner, will show all four days action from this historic golf event on the Rivera Maya.

Sin embargo, hoy en dia el verdadero legado golf�stico del "Shark" no sera el numero de torneos que gano, sino el diseno de sus campos de golf. Con mas de 50 campos en cinco continentes, Greg Norman se ha convertido en el disenador mas solicitado en el medio.

El club de golf El Camaleon en Mayakoba, administrado por Fairmont Hotels & Resorts es su mas reciente obra maestra. El diseno de sus 7,039 yardas es unico - no solo en Mexico sino en el todo el reino del golf. Se extiende sobre por tres horizontes distintos: selva tropical, densos manglares y areas arenosas a la orilla del mar cuyos hoyos se encuentran separados por enormes canales de piedra caliza. Incluso incorporo un cenote - una enorme y antigua caverna tipica de la region - en el corazon del fairway inicial.

El campo es excepcional, pero no se quedan atras las demas instalaciones de golf. La hermosa casa club, con influencia maya, domina al green 18, y tanto el area de entrenamiento como el driving range son de primera categoria. Mas increible aun es el singular sistema de canales del resort; los jugadores podran salir de su habitacion para subirse a un barco que los conducira �hasta la primera mesa de salida! Al igual que en todos los proyectos de Norman, ha balanceado el campo para que pueda ser disfrutado por jugadores de golf de todos lo niveles. Desde los las mesas de salida profesionales, El Camaleon es un reto de grandes ligas... una verdadera mordida del Shark (tiburon). Sin embargo, cada hoyo cuenta con al menos cinco mesas de salida, por lo que ofrece opciones para cada jugador.

En el 2007, se hizo historia en el golf cuando el PGA TOUR realizo su primer torneo oficial en Mexico. El Mayakoba Golf Classic se llevara a cabo del 22 al 26 de Febrero y ofrecera una bolsa de 3.7 millones de dolares. El Golf Channel - socio exclusivo de transmision por cable del TOUR - transmitira la accion de los cuatro dias de este historico evento de golf en la Riviera Maya.

1	5	554	The first hole is a 554-yard par 5 that plays left to right. The wide fairway is split by a unique cenote (cave) that provides a great target for your drive. The green sits left to right and is guarded by bunkers left and right. A good drive and solid 3-wood will leave you with a 9 iron or less into the green. El primer hoyo es un par 5 de 554 yardas que se juega de izquierda a derecha. El amplio fairway esta separado por un singular cenote que puede ser el blanco perfecto para su tiro. El green se inclina de izquierda a derecha y esta protegido por trampas de ambos lados. Un buen tiro con una madera 3 lo dejara en el green con un 9 de fierro o menos del green.
2	3	151	A par 3 that plays 151 yards from the back tee. The tees are separated from the approach and green by a large waste area, and the long narrow green sits slightly right to left. A shot long and to the right will find the second cenote on the course. Es un par 3 de 151 yardas desde la mesa de salida profesional. Las mesas de salida estan separadas del area de acercamiento y del green por una gran area de transicion, y el angosto green se inclina ligeramente de derecha a izquierda. 3	4	462	The first par 4 on the course is 462 yards and is the first true test at El Camale€n. The fairway is wide with a bunker right, but a mishit or weak drive will leave you with a wood or long iron into this small green that has bunkers front right and back left. El primer par 4 del campo mide 462 yardas y es la primera prueba verdadera de El Camaleon. El fairway es ancho y tiene una trampa del lado derecho; un mal tiro o un drive corto lo dejara con una madera o un fierro largo para llegar a un green protegido por trampas de sus lados derecho anterior e izquierdo posterior.
4	4	438	The 438-yard par 4 plays slightly down hill and is into the prevailing ocean breeze. No bunkers on this hole but you will need to work the ball around two large fig trees that come into play. The first is off the right of the tee shot at about 150 yards. The second is on the left side and can be in play for the shot into the green. The green is medium size and sits right to left. Este par 4 de 438 yardas se juega con una ligera inclinacion hacia abajo y contra la predominante brisa del mar. No tiene trampas, pero tendra que llevar a cabo su jugada alrededor de dos grandes higueras. La primera se encuentra hacia la derecha de la mesa de salida, como a unas 150 yardas. La segunda esta del lado izquierdo y puede afectar su tiro hacia el green. El green es de tamano mediano y se inclina de derecha a izquierda.
5	4	428	The first of El Camaleon's mangrove holes, this par 4 is 428 yards and into the prevailing winds. The hole plays left to right while the green sits right to left and is guarded on the left by a large bunker. The ball is best played down the right side of the fairway for the best angle into the green. Shots not landing on green grass are most likely lost in the dense mangroves. Este es el primer hoyo de manglares de El Camaleon; a este par 4 de 428 yardas lo afectan los constantes vientos. El hoyo se juega de izquierda a derecha y se inclina de derecha a izquierda. Esta protegido por una gran trampa del lado izquierdo. La bola se juega mejor por el lado derecho del fairway para lograr el mejor angulo hacia el green. 6	4	389	This short par 4 at 389 yards has two forced carries and may be the most challenging hole on the front nine. Into the wind, it is also in the mangroves and plays left to right to an elevated green that is guarded by deep and large bunkers on the right. Este par 4 corto de 389 yardas obliga a llegar de aire en dos tiros, y es probablemente el hoyo mas retador de los primeros nueve. Afectado por fuertes vientos, tambien se encuentra en los manglares y se juega de derecha a izquierda hacia un green elevado que esta protegido por trampas grandes y profundas del lado derecho.
7	3	116	Welcome to the beach on this short par 3! Measuring only 116 yards, this hole plays straight into the strong Caribbean breeze making club selection very important. Enjoy this breathtaking ocean hole with clear views to the Caribbean and the Island of Cozumel. �La playa le da la bienvenida a este par 3 corto! De tan solo 116 yardas, este hoyo se juega directamente en contra de la fuerte brisa del Caribe, por lo que la correcta seleccion del palo es un factor determinante. Disfrute de este majestuoso hoyo que ofrece vistas del Mar Caribe y de la isla de Cozumel.
8	5	554	This par 5 is 554 yards and brings you back into the protected mangroves of Mayakoba. Bordered on the left by one of El Camale€n's signature canals, the hole plays right to left with a medium-sized green tucked directly in front of the Fairmont Mayakoba. You will need three shots to find the green on this beautiful hole. Este par 5 de 554 yardas lo regresa a los manglares protegidos de Mayakoba. Bordeado del lado izquierdo por uno de los famosos canales de El Camaleon, el hoyo se juega de derecha a izquierda hacia un green mediano que se localiza justo al frente del hotel Fairmont Mayakoba. Necesitara tres tiros para llegar al green de este hermoso hoyo.
9	4	416	A par 4 at 416 yards plays up hill and with the wind. As El Camaleon is constantly changing, you are now back in the selva - or forest. The hole plays left to right and a good drive will leave a short- or mid-iron into the largest green on the course. Take a moment to enjoy the view of the deepest canals at Mayakoba to the right of the green. Par 4 de 416 yardas que se juega cuesta arriba en contra del viento. Como El Camaleon cambia constantemente, ya esta de regreso en la selva. El hoyo se juega de izquierda a derecha, y un buen tiro lo dejara a un fierro corto o mediano de llegar al green mas grande del campo. 10	3	200	Our longest par 3 at 200 yards. The hole plays downhill and the green is perched alongside a breathtaking quarry of crystal clear water. A shot to the middle of this deep green will feed to the back and caution should be taken for the limestone cliffs to the right of this green. Enjoy the quarry views and one of the best bird-watching locations at El Camaleon. Es el par 3 mas largo con sus 200 yardas. El hoyo se juega con una pendiente descendente, y el green se encuentra junto a una impresionante presa de agua cristalina. Un tiro hacia el centro de este profundo green hara que su bola se vaya hasta lo mas profundo de este. Tambien debe tener cuidado de los acantilados de piedra caliza que se encuentran del lado derecho del green. 11	4	360	One of the few birdie opportunities at El Camaleon, this straightaway par 4 is 360 yards and the tee shot must carry the canal and waste area. The green sits right to left and falls back to front. Dense forest completely surrounds this hole to catch any wayward shots. Ofrece una de las pocas oportunidades para hacer un birdie facil en El Camaleon; el tiro inicial de este par totalmente recto de 360 yardas debe pasar por encina del canal y del area de transicion. El green se inclina de derecha a izquierda y cae de atras hacia adelante. Esta totalmente rodeado por la espesa selva que atrapara cualquier tiro desviado.
12	4	451	This very long par 4 may have no bunkers, but plays very difficult into the prevailing wind. From the back tees, the hole plays straight away at 451 yards. The fairway is very wide and cut into the existing terrain to help feed balls back to the middle. The green is raised and is small considering the heavy slopes that surround it, so approach shots are best played high and soft. Este par 4 largo de 451 yardas podra carecer de trampas, pero se juega con gran dificultad en contra del viento. Desde las mesas de salida profesionales, sus 451 yardas se juegan en linea recta. 13	5	532	The only hole at El Camaleon to begin in the forest and end in the mangroves, this medium length par 5 can be tricky! Measured at 532 yards, the wind is prevalent and the landing areas grow continuously more narrow as you make your way to this small green. Don't be fooled by the false front bunker in front, the medium size green extends further back than it appears! Este es el unico hoyo en El Camaleon que comienza en la selva y termina en los manglares; �este par 5 mediano puede ser enganoso! Con un total de 532 yardas, el viento es un factor importante en este hoyo y las areas de seguras se hacen cada vez mas angostas mientras se acerca uno al green. No se deje enganar por la falsa trampa que se encuentra al frente; el mediano green se extiende mas hacia atras de lo que aparenta.
14	4	452	One of El Camaleon's most challenging holes, this par 4 measures 452 yards into the wind and is carved delicately from the dense mangroves. The tee shot plays right to left and the fairway is very welcoming. Your drive is best placed to the right of the fairway for the best angle into the elevated green that is guarded by a large bunker left. Two great shots will be required to reach this green and par should be considered a great score! Este par 4 de 452 yardas es el mas retador de El Camaleon; se juega en contra del viento y fue esculpido de los tupidos manglares. El tiro de salida se juega de derecha a izquierda, y el fairway es muy acogedor. Su drive debera estar dirigido hacia la derecha del fairway en direccion al elevado green que esta protegido por una gran trampa del lado izquierdo. Requiere de dos buenos tiros, y par se considera un buen score.
15	3	155	Bring out your camera for the signature hole of El Camaleon! A par 3 of 155 yards and running alongside the Caribbean, the strong ocean breeze will play an important part in your club selection. Enjoy the sweeping views of Cozumel and the world's second-largest coral reef. Getting back to golf, this tricky green sits right to left on a natural dune ridge and is guarded by a single bunker to the front left of the green. Traiga su camara fotografica para capturar al "signature hole" de El Camaleon. Es un par 3 de 155 yardas situado a la orilla del Mar Caribe. La fuerte brisa del mar es un factor de suma relevancia durante la seleccion del baston apropiado. Disfrute de las fantasticas vistas de la isla de Cozumel y del segundo arrecife coralino mas grande del mundo. Volviendo al golf, este hoyo no se debe subestimar, se encuentra sobre la cresta de una duna de arena, y hacia el frente esta protegido por una trampa del lado izquierdo del green.
16	4	485	The true birdie-hole of the back nine, this par 4 plays through the mangroves and measures 485 yards with the wind at your back. The hole plays left to right to a very wide fairway. This green can be reached in two with some help from the wind. The large green sits left to right and is well-guarded by bunkers both right and left. Entre los segundos nueve, este es el verdadero hoyo para birdies; este par 4 de 485 yardas se juega con el viento a su favor a traves de los manglares. El hoyo se juega de derecha a izquierda hacia un muy ancho fairway. Se puede llegar al green con algo de ayuda del viento. El gran green se inclina de izquierda a derecha y esta bien protegido por trampas de los lados izquierdo y derecho.
17	4	386	This short par 4 plays directly between a limestone canal and the Fairmont Mayakoba. The green sits only two yards from the canal so be sure not to miss left. The prudent play is to leave the driver in the bag and make sure the balls stays in play on this very tricky par 4. Este par 4 corto de 386 yardas se juega directamente entre un canal de piedra caliza y el hotel Fairmont Mayakoba. El green se encuentra a tan solo dos yardas del canal, asi que tenga cuidado de no fallar hacia la izquierda. La jugada mas prudente sera dejar su driver en la bolsa y asegurarse de mantener la bola en juego en este muy enganoso par 4.
18	4	452	What a way to finish! This eloquent finishing hole is 452 yards long, up hill and with the prevailing wind. The fairway is well bunkered, but those who find it will be rewarded with a straightforward shot to the green. The unique design of the clubhouse will provide a good target to this medium size green with several bunkers guarding the right side. A good challenging hole to finish the round at El Camale€n. �Que manera de terminar! Este elocuente hoyo final par 4 mide 452 yardas y se juega con pendiente ascendente en contra del viento. El fairway esta protegido por bastantes trampas, pero aquellos quienes lo encuentren seran recompensados con un tiro directo hacia el green. El diseno unico de la casa club senala el camino hacia este mediano green con varias trampas que lo protegen del lado derecho. Es un buen reto final para terminar su ronda en El Camaleon.
