December 9, 2005

Irving, TX - For the sixth consecutive year, the EDS Byron Nelson Championship has been recognized for raising more money for charity than any other tournament on the PGA TOUR. The Salesmanship Club of Dallas announced that the Championship received the 2005 Benefactor Award from the PGA TOUR Tournaments Association (PGATTA). Ted Purdy, champion of the 2005 EDS Byron Nelson Championship, was the featured speaker at a Salesmanship Club of Dallas luncheon where the award was presented.

"I am honored to be the champion of the tournament that gives the most back to charity," said Purdy, who toured Salesmanship Youth and Family Centers, the charity that receives 100 percent of Championship proceeds. "It's extraordinary to see where the money is going and what this tournament is doing for kids in this community. Everyone in the community should see this."

"Our Club is thrilled to once again be recognized for our charitable contribution," said Larry Nixon, tournament chairman of the 2005 Championship. "Raising money to support our programs for children and families  has been our number one goal since this tournament began. This award is a source of great pride for our entire membership."

Bob Crotty, Salesmanship Club of Dallas president said, "This award is a tribute to our title sponsor, EDS, and our many sponsors and volunteers who make it possible for us to raise so much money for charity. This means a great deal to all of our members who work hard all year to support the children and families served by Salesmanship Club Youth and Family Centers."

The 2005 EDS Byron Nelson Championship raised $6.06 million for Salesmanship Club Youth and Family Centers, a nonprofit organization that provides education and mental  health services for more than 2,700 children and their familes in the greater Dallas area. SCYFC's programs  include family therapy centers in Oak Cliff and North Dallas, and the J. Erik Jonsson Community School, a research-based laboratory school for urban children in Oak Cliff. The Salesmanship Club is preparing to launch a new program for children and families, the Family Works Center, that will combine prevention, early intervention and treatment services in one unique center in Northwest Dallas. Since its inception, the EDS Byron Nelson Championship has raised more than $88 million for Salesmanship Club Youth and Family Centers.
