EDS Byron Nelson Championship Receives Benefactor Award for Fundraising Efforts

Championship raises more money for charity than any other PGA TOUR event

IRVING, Texas -- The Salesmanship Club of Dallas announced today that the EDS Byron Nelson Championship received the 2004 Benefactor Award from the PGA TOUR Tournaments Association (PGATTA) for the fifth consecutive year.

"The Benefactor Award is presented annually to the PGA  TOUR tournament that contributes the most money to charity," said Frank Houseman, Salesmanship Club member and PGATTA president. Contributions from the 2004 event totaled almost $6.1 million. Houseman and Clare Hogan, director of events management and global marketing for EDS, accepted the award at the PGATTA annual meeting last month at Las Costa.

"We've never lost sight of why we're hosting this Championship," said Steve Barley, 2004 tournament chairman. "Since its inception, our No. 1 priority has been to raise money to support the many children and families in the Dallas community who need our help."

Joe Worsham, Salesmanship Club president, said, "Winning this award means a lot to all the Club members who work really hard to make our Championship successful. We are dedicated to helping children and their families through our programs, and we are very proud to earn this award for the fifth consecutive year. We also want to recognize and thank EDS and its partners for their support of the Championship and the Salesmanship Club."

Since its inception, the Championship has raised $82 million for Salesmanship Club Youth and Family Centers, the non-profit agency that receives al the Championship proceeds. Salesmanship Club Youth and Family Centers provides education and mental health servies for more than 2,700 children and their families in the greater Dallas area through its family therapy centers in Oak Cliff and West Dallas, and a private laboratory school in Oak Cliff, the J.
