January 22, 2004 IRVING, Texas -- The Salesmanship Club of Dallas, sponsor of the EDS Byron Nelson
Championship, announced today that the purse for the 2004 tournament has been raised to $5.8 million. The champion's share
will be $1.044 million.
This is the 10th consecutive year the tournament purse has increased and the second time the champion will earn more than
$1 million. The prize money represents a $200,000 increase over 2003 and an almost 500 percent increase since 1994. It is
among the largest purses on the PGA TOUR.
"Our goal has always been to provide the best stop on the PGA TOUR," said Steve Barley, 2004 tournament chairman. "With
a purse of this magnitude, we can attract the best players and provide spectators with a truly exciting tournament."
The EDS Byron Nelson Championship, the only PGA TOUR tournament named after a professional golfer, annually provides more
money to charity than any other stop on the PGA TOUR. Last year, the tournament donated $5.74 million to the Salesmanship
Club Youth and Family Centers, Inc.
The 2004 EDS Byron Nelson Championship will be played at the Tournament Players Course at the Four Seasons Resort Las Colinas
in Irving, Texas, for the 22nd year. It is scheduled for May 12-16 and will mark the 60th anniversary of Byron Nelson's win
at the 1944 Texas Victory Open. For details, visit www.BYRONNELSON.PGATOUR.com.
