American Cancer Society and the Ford Championship "Teaming Up" to Save Lives

Since 1969, the American Cancer Society and the tournament have teamed up in the battle against cancer. This incredible partnership has helped make real inroads in this fight to eliminate cancer and diminish the suffering of those who suffer from cancer.

During the past 31 years, the tournament has raised more than $5.9 million for the American Cancer Society's programs, patient services, research, education and advocacy. This generous support has enabled the American Cancer Society to touch thousands of lives. With the help of this tournament, the American Cancer Society is able to accomplish the following in Florida:

  • 30,737 cancer patients and their families received direct services such as transportation to treatment, equipment leans, emergency financial assistance, pain medication, information, resources, guidance and housing.
  • 167,147 women were reached with breast health information.
  • 52,000 employees were reached with life-saving information in the workplace through Work Well Cancer-Free.
  • 257 Florida children, ages 6-16, attended two weeks of summer sleepaway camp at R.O.C.K. Camp -- free of charge.
  • 88 college scholarships were awarded to childhood cancer survivors.
  • Every Florida legislator was reached by an American Cancer Society volunteer to further cancer-related causes within the State.
  • 5,328 cancer-patient lives were enhanced by participating in support groups such as I Can Cope and Man to Man in Miami-Dade County.
  • 1,360 cancer patients and their families have resided free of charge during their cancer treatments at the Winn-Dixie Hope Lodge Center in Miami since it opened in 1993
  • 3,580 cancer patients in Miami-Dade County alone had at-home or hospital support visits from volunteers who are cancer survivors themselves in programs such as Reach to Recovery, Laryngectomy Support, Ostomy Supports and CanSurmount.
  • 575 women undergoing chemotherapy benefited from the Look Good ... Feel Better program in Miami-Dade County alone, which provides health and beauty assistance.

The American Cancer Society is thrilled to share another year with its team partner, the tournament. Together, the American Cancer Society and the Ford Championship continue to make an impact to eliminate cancer as a major health concern.
