MISSION & OVERVIEW

Mission: The Monterey Peninsula Foundation, and its giving arm AT&T Pebble Beach Charities, is exclusively philanthropic and is responsible for the disbursement of funds raised to charitable organizations which enhance the quality of life of the residents of Monterey County and surrounding areas.

More than 50 years ago, Bing Crosby invited a group of friends to get together for some golf, a clambake and, most importantly, to raise a little money for the local charities...the rest is history.

Since that time, the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am has become one of the best-loved, most internationally recognized stops on the PGA TOUR and the special spirit of giving initiated so many years ago has continued to develop and expand through the commitment, dedication and vision of the Monterey Peninsula Foundation.

Since its inception, the Monterey Peninsula Foundation has focused on improving the quality of life on the Monterey Peninsula and surrounding areas and has directly impacted and provided meaningful and measurable benefits to the community.

Today, the Foundation is committed to funding organizations and programs that demonstrate the greatest positive effect. The Foundation is guided in grant making by specific areas of interest that include: youth, education, health, human services, arts, community and environmental programs.

Particular emphasis is given to the promotion of youth development and educational programs that develop and foster contributing members to the community's values and ideals for future generations.

In this regard, it is committed to The First Tee program. The First Tee's mission is to impact the lives of young people by providing learning facilities and educational programs that promote character-development and life-enhancing values through the game of golf. Locally, the Foundation is committed to bringing this program and its impact to our youth.

The vision of the Foundation is to expand its leadership role by continually increasing the growth of its endowment and charitable giving. Focus will be on strategic opportunities that fuel future generations.

FOCUS AREAS OF GIVING

The Monterey Peninsula Foundation provides grants to nonprofit organizations that benefit the community in the areas of Youth, Education, Health & Human Services, Arts & Culture, and Community & Environment. The Foundation's principal source of funds is the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am tournament.

FUNDING EXCLUSIONS

The Foundation does not fund:

Organizations without 501(c)(3) status;
Organizations that have been in operation less than three years;
Organizations that discriminate on the basis of race, culture, gender, sexual orientation, religion or age;
Individuals;
Political parties, candidates, or partisan political organizations or activities;
Organizations whose activities are located outside of the United States;
Emergency operating funds or requests to reduce debt or past operating deficits;
Annual meetings, advertising, contests, fundraising events, ceremonies, conferences, travel, memorials or testimonials;
Academic or science research projects;
Endowments;
Development or production of books, films or video projects;
Gifts that benefit a particular individual or a group of individuals such as trips, choirs, bands, tours, internships, scholarships;
Organizations with a limited constituency, such as labor organizations, fraternal organizations or veterans groups;
Nonprofit organizations that spend more than 25 percent of their revenue on management overhead and fundraising costs.

In every instance, the Foundation reserves the full and absolute right to grant or deny any request at its sole and categorical discretion.
