Duke Ends Victory Draught at The Cliffs

May 3, 2006

Ken Duke took home his first ever Nationwide tour victory Sunday in the BMW Charity Pro-Am at the Cliffs.

Duke finished up the tournament with a 13-under-par 273 to give him a narrow one-stroke victory over runner-up Jess Daley.  Grant Waite and Kevin Stadler finished tied for third while Jeff Quinney, Johnson Wagner and Richard Johnson tied for fifth.

Duke was a participant in the 2005 Chattanooga Classic and a top-20 finisher in the 2003 Classic.  Also, Johnson Wagner was tied for 11th in last year's Classic.  Meanwhile, Classic exemption winner Rickey Barnes finished The Cliffs in 71st position and 2004 champion Justin Bolli was tied for 39th.

With his victory, Duke jumped 15 positions to fifth place on the money list this week.  Tripp Isenhour still sits atop the money list for the fifth straight week followed by Paul Sheehan, Johnson Wagner, and Jim Rutledge.  Wagner and Rutledge placed tied for 11th and 27th, respectfully, in last year's Chattanooga Classic.

Duke looks to continue his success of three straight top-10 finishes as the Nationwide heads north this week to Virginia Beach and the Virginia Beach Open.  The TPC Virginia Beach plays host to this week's event that begins Thursday.

Chris Couch became the ninth former Nationwide Tour player to win on the PGA TOUR this year when he took home the Zurich Classic of New Orleans title.  Other former players also played well in New Orleans. Bubba Watson, who tied for eighth in last year's Chattanooga Classic, continues to lead the TOUR in driving distance as he finished tied for 31st and 2005 Chattanooga Classic champion Jason Schultz finished tied for 25th.  Both Couch and Duke are entered in this week's Wachovia Championship.

Duke looks to Monday qualify for the Wachovia Championship.  But Duke has said that if he does not qualify for the Wachovia Championship he will be in Virginia Beach.
