DAYTONA BEACH, Florida -- Angela Park shot a 5-under 67 at LPGA International for a share of the second-round lead with South Korea's Hye Jung Choi in the LPGA Tour's 90-hole final qualifying tournament on Thursday. The 18-year-old Park had six birdies and a bogey on the Legends Course to match Choi at 7-under 137. The 21-year-old Choi, a LPGA Tour rookie this season, had a 70 on the Champions Course. The top 15 after five rounds will receive exempt LPGA Tour cards and the next 35 will get conditional cards. The low 70 and ties in the 138-player field after 72 holes will advance to the final round on the Legends Course. "I just played steady out there. I putted fine. I hit the ball pretty well. I think the key out there today was my ball striking," said Park, who tied for 15th in the Kraft Nabisco Championship this year. "I was pretty calm out there. I wasn't really thinking about what I was going to shoot. We all know there's three more days and anything could happen." Park turned professional in April and played on the Futures Tour this year, finishing with seven top-10s in 16 starts. "I've learned so much over the past year," Park said. "It's been a great experience going from amateur to professional. I've grown as a player and I want to keep that up." Choi had four birdies and two bogeys to maintain a share of the lead. "I didn't hit very well today," Choi said. "I had a chance, but I didn't make it. I wanted to go to 10 under, but I was a little nervous." Clarissa Childs (68) was third at 6 under, and Ashley Hoagland (69), Kimberly Hall (69), Kelly Lagedrost (68) and Maru Martinez (69) were 5 under. In-Kyung Kim, who shared the first-round lead with Choi after a 67, shot a 73 to fall to 4 under. Ashley Prange, The Golf Channel's "Big Break" winner who just missed a LPGA Tour card with a sixth-place finish on the Futures Tour money list, followed her opening 69 with a 76 that left her in a 39th-place tie at 1 over. Among other notable players, 19-year-old Jane Park, the 2004 U.S. Women's Amateur champion, was tied for 28th at even par after a 73. ©The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved. |
