Toledo seeks to retain Peek'n Peak crown

The Nationwide Tour will celebrate the season’s halfway point with a little extra bonus at this week’s Peek’n Peak Classic in Findley Lake, N.Y. The 5th annual event at Peek’n Peak Resort received a hefty 25% purse increase this year, with a total of $560,000 up for grabs and $108,000 going to first place.

Defending champ Esteban Toledo will return to the par-72 Upper Course where he managed to end a 16-year professional drought at last year’s event. After 458 career starts, the native of Mexico sealed the deal on his first pro win by holing a sand wedge from 86 yards for an eagle-3 to defeat runner-up Jeff Gove. Fellow event winner Guy Boros (2003) will join Toledo in Findley Lake.

After two weeks away from the Nationwide Tour, Tripp Isenhour returns to the field seeking his third win of the year and an automatic promotion to the PGA TOUR. Isenhour won earlier this season at the Movistar Panama Championship and Livermore Valley Wine Country Championship and remains the Tour’s money leader with $263,084.

While they may not have a 2006 title under their belt just yet, Cliff Kresge and Parker McLachlin have emerged onto the top 10 money list through consistently strong finishes this season. McLachlin finished T2 in both Panama and Knoxville while Kresge has logged four top 10 finishes so far this year.

The Nationwide Tour’s latest rookie, Kyle Reifers, has earned an exemption into the Peek’n Peak field through his phenomenal victory at the Chattanooga Classic last week. The recent Wake Forest grad Monday qualified into Chattanooga and went on to capture the win during his professional golf debut.

The Golf Channel will be on hand to offer coverage of all the Peek’n Peak Classic action starting June 29.

The Nationwide Tour will break for Independence Day and return on July 10th with the Scholarship America Showdown at Somerby Golf Club in Byron, Minnesota.
