Q&A with NFL running back Marshall Faulk

Editor’s note: Marshall Faulk recently completed his 12th season in the NFL -- the first five spent with the Indianapolis Colts and the last seven with the St. Louis Rams. Earlier this year, the running back, who has rushed for more than 12,000 yards, played in the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic, where he answered the questions below posed by PGA TOUR media official Todd Budnick.

PGATOUR.com: How did you get started playing golf?

FAULK: I got started about 10 years ago, I got invited to a tournament, never played. Tommy Armour III was there because it was a friend of mine’s tournament and he watched me swing at the first golf ball I ever attempted to hit. I didn’t hit it, and from then on it was like a challenge, I couldn't do it, I couldn't get it done and it was on. I was out to get this game.

PGATOUR.com: You have played in a few of these, who has been your favorite TOUR partner?

FAULK: I like them all. I think all these guys all have talent. I have fun with them all. They are real receptive too us. They are accepting of our horrible shots and they are humored by it and it's fun.

PGATOUR.com: How about a dream foursome for you?

FAULK: I don’t really have one. At a point in time I did and I regret that I said that statement because my dream foursome would, you know, include people who didn’t even play golf, just to spend time with them.

PGATOUR.com: What has been your best golfing moment to date?

FAULK: I don't know. I mean, I've had some -- I've had about five holes-in-one and all of them were lucky. None of them were great shots, and ever since I've been able to hit the ball well, I want to but I haven't been able to make one.

PGATOUR.com: You haven't played since July, but how often do you get to play?

FAULK: Not often. I don't even play during the season. My shoulders, my elbows, my hands are just too beat up. Once you get past October -- and say in St. Louis, you can’t (play any longer).

PGATOUR.com: What's your best score and where did you shoot it?

FAULK: I shot 70 and that was even par at the course. That’s about it. I shot even par maybe once.

PGATOUR.com: Where do you play most of your golf?

FAULK: I play everywhere. I play everywhere. I'm coming up on the 14-club rule. They are going to have to kick me out, I almost belong to 14 (different) clubs.

PGATOUR.com: What courses haven't you played yet would you really like to play?

FAULK: There are not many. I have played just about all of them.

PGATOUR.com: Even outside the United States -- perhaps in Ireland?

FAULK: I haven’t and I don't have much desire to play there. I guess if I’m ever over there and I get the opportunity to, then fine, but I am accepting to play golf where I am at.
