SYNOPSIS
 Tiger Woods needed an extra day to win his first PLAYERS Championship -- and his second tournament in as many weeks after what was, for him, a prolonged slump from the winner's circle. Woods struggled with his putter early in the week and was six strokes behind Jerry Kelly at the midway mark. But as he tends to do, Woods surged into the picture with a third-round 66 that tied him with Vijay Singh and landed him in the final group with Kelly on Sunday -- and Monday. Woods didn't disappoint, either, starting birdie-eagle and eventually taking the lead with a birdie at the ninth hole as play was suspended due to rain. Singh made a spirited bid, despite a triple bogey on the 14th, but Woods gained a two-stroke cushion with a tap-in birdie at the 16th hole after his 40-footer for eagle stubbornly refused to fall. His bogey at the 18th hole didn't matter after Singh failed to make birdie, and Woods had his 26th win. "I wasn't playing that bad," Woods said. "It wasn't like I was missing cuts every week. I was right there with a chance to win in virtually every tournament I teed it up in, and I think that's pretty good. ... Now I've won two tournaments in a row. I'm sure they will write about something else."
