Pat Perez's earnings took a bit of a tumble but his ball-striking improved during the 2010 campaign. The key will be to use the increased consistency tee to green to get into contention more frequently this year as the former Arizona State standout stalks that elusive second victory.
At times in the past, Perez has been his own worst enemy. But he's learned to control his psyche and let the physical skills, which have always been there, take over like he did in 2009 when he finally broke through at the 50th anniversary of the Bob Hope Classic.
Perez's hard work on creating a flatter swing plane with Mike Abbott has paid dividends, too, even if it didn't show up in the cash column in 2010. He's hitting nearly three percent more fairways and six percent more greens in regulation and ranked 14th in the TOUR's all-around category.
Entertaining as ever -- hard not to be a fan.
Statistically, he has all the weapons, but he could stand to make a few more putts inside five feet. He's not alone, of course, and he'll give you 27 starts, but for all the reasons you have to get attached, there are just as many to let him fall one more round. Or two. A certain bargain at $947K though.
