There's nothing like the respect of your peers and while Jim Furyk has always had it, he now has the Jack Nicklaus Trophy, too, after being voted the PGA TOUR Player of the Year. Oh, and then there's that $10 million FedExCup bonus to make the holidays even more special.
Furyk made up for a three-year victory drought in a big way when he won three times on the PGA TOUR in 2010 -- including the season-ending TOUR Championship presented by Coca-Cola that sealed the FedExCup, as well. The 40-year-old took a one-stroke lead into the final round and had the same advantage when he came to the 72nd hole where a stellar bunker shot to 26 inches secured the victory.
Furyk's other 2010 wins came at the Transitions Championship and Verizon Heritage where he won in a playoff after Brian Davis pulled even with a birdie at the 72nd hole. After a trip to Wales to play in his seventh Ryder Cup, the avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan was able to turn his attention to football and more leisurely prepare for next year's encore.
Can you imagine Furyk's career ending with only one major? Me neither.
Four wins since the 2009 Chevron World Challenge, including THE TOUR Championship. A smart salary fade for 2011, but still a cornerstone elsewhere.
