HERTFORDSHIRE, England -- On a rare weekend off last week, Adam Scott was like many golf fans, sitting in front of the
television set watching the Ryder Cup.
Scott watched the debacle on Sunday as the U.S. team won just two
matches and halved another on the way to that record-tying defeat. And
he couldn’t help but wonder why the Americans always seem to play so
much better at The Presidents Cup.
The 26-year-old Aussie has played on two International Teams at the
Presidents Cup -- with the U.S. winning once and the two teams tying in
the other. The Americans have a 4-1-1 edge in the competition overall.
“I'd like them to roll over a little more for us,” Scott said, smiling.
“We're going to definitely feel the heat next year in the Presidents Cup
because we'd definitely like to get a win.
“We're going to have a really strong team, and I'm sure the Americans
are going to be bitter about not having the Ryder Cup, so they're going
to want to keep The Presidents Cup. I think we're in for a really good
competition.”
The 2007 Presidents Cup will be played Sept. 27-30 at Royal Montreal
Golf Club in Montreal, Canada. Scott said he had dinner the other night
with fellow Aussie Stuart Appleby and
New Zealand’s Michael Campbell, and they were already talking about next
year’s event.
“I think The Presidents Cup, the last couple years, has really lifted as
a tournament,” Scott said. “I think with all the buildup over the next
year I think it's going to be big there in Montreal with probably the
Americans looking to get their hands on the trophy, and same for us.”
Scott enters Sunday’s final round of the World Golf Championships--American Express Championship in second
place, trailing Tiger Woods -- the
leading point-getter for the Americans at The K Club last week -- by six
strokes.
A reporter asked the 26-year-old Aussie if he had considered wearing a
European Ryder Cup cap to the first tee at The Grove for their 10:37
a.m. (5:37 a.m. ET) date.
“(The) last time some guy wore a hat to take down Tiger, it didn't go
too well,” Scott said, recalling the “Tiger who?” cap Vijay Singh’s
caddie donned for their Singles match at the 2000 Presidents Cup. “I'm
going to wear my Titleist hat tomorrow.”
Woods took a 2-and-1 victory over Singh that day as the U.S. won 21 ½ to
10 ½.

Scott used to play those infamous 6 a.m. practice rounds with Woods,
soaking up all the knowledge he could from the world’s No. 1 player. The
young Aussie, who is ranked fifth, has found he likes sleeping in too
much now, though.
