Blog: Villegas looking forward to resting after fun week

Editor’s note: Camilo Villegas, who recently completed a successful rookie campaign on the PGA TOUR, is representing Colombia at the World Golf Championships-Barbados World Cup this week. Villegas took some time to write this blog after teaming with Manuel Merizalde finish alone in 14th place.

ST. JAMES, Barbados -- Today was a little frustrating at the beginning, but overall it was another fun day. We kept hitting great shots early, but we just didn't make any putts. Things turned around at the 14th hole, though, when my partner Manuel made that birdie putt. He hadn’t putted his best all week, and when we saw that one drop, we both smiled. Then he came back and made putts on No. 16 and No. 18 for birdie, which was great. That's the way to finish the tournament. That's the way to go home with a smile. It was a fun week. It was fun playing for my country and representing Colombia in my first professional event.

Having Coach on the bag this week was a pretty neat experience, too. Like I said earlier this week, I spent four great years right next to him at Florida. It was a great learning experience those four years. We have a great relationship; a great friendship. To have him on the bag, and play well like I did this week and have fun like we did this week, well, it was pretty special.

Someone asked me what I was going to do the rest of the year. That word has four letters and it spells rest. I’ve got to shoot a commercial Tuesday, and then I’m going to put the clubs up for a couple of weeks. It's been a long year. This is my 33rd week and it's been a very positive year, but I need some rest. I'll be back home where I grew up, with my family and friends, in a place that I miss a lot. Then I’ll get ready for next year.

I’ve had a lot of great experiences this year; a lot of great memories. But you know what? We've got 2007 coming up and you've just got to have a positive attitude and work hard for it. Whatever we did this year, it's past, and even if it was good or bad, it doesn't make a difference for the next one.

I can’t pick one thing that stands out about this year -- everything does. It's been a great rookie year -- obviously, a lot more positive than negative. But there's one main word, which is competitive. It's extremely competitive out here. There's no time to blink. You start blinking, and everybody starts going past you. So it's all up to me. It's all up to my attitude, my work ethic, and we'll see what comes up.
