ABC special takes a rare look into the practice routines of TOUR pros
ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -- The secret weapon behind any top golfer’s game isn’t in the bag -- it’s in the swing. That being said, PGA TOUR players spend countless hours perfecting theirs for championship play through intense practice sessions. "Practice Like a TOUR Player presented by FedEx" is an ABC Sports special airing Sunday, Aug. 6 at 12:30 p.m. ET, that will offer a rare look into the practice routines of PGA TOUR professionals. Whether you’re a scratch golfer or just learning the game, all golf enthusiasts will benefit from the in-depth instructional tips offered straight from TOUR players such as three-time major champion and 29-time winner Vijay Singh, 2003 Masters champion Mike Weir and Stuart Appleby, who has won the last three Mercedes Championships. Host Mike Tirico narrates this hour-long program, which is produced by PGA TOUR Productions. "Practice Like a TOUR Player" shows TOUR players during their private practice sessions, including never-before-seen footage of Singh working out with his trainer on the Florida beaches. Join Appleby at his Orlando, Fla., home with his instructor as they offer swing tips and drills to help improve your pre-round practice sessions and add power to your game. From his home course in Salt Lake City, Utah, Weir takes viewers through a fine-tuning of the short game. Other program highlights include: • Former Nationwide Tour Player of the Year and 2004 BellSouth Classic champion Zach Johnson going through his pre-round warm-up and practice session before an actual PGA TOUR event. He discusses his preparation from the time he arrives until the time he steps onto the first tee. • PGA TOUR members demonstrating their favorite practice range drills. • Quick Tips - David Toms and Singh provide tips on alignment, long bunker play, how to hit a fairway wood and the proper way to read a green. "Practice Like a TOUR Player" also will show the instrumental role ShotLink statistical data plays in developing training programs on TOUR. |
