MORE INTERVIEWS: Crowne Plaza Invitational transcript archive

Q. Jason, you just finished this one but the next one out you are defending champion?

JASON DAY: Yes, it's going to be fun. It's a new experience. Next week. A lot more commitments to next week obviously. I'm going to try to go in there and fair as good as I can. Try to get some rest. This week has been more of a mental ride for me coming off the weekend play, so I'm just going to try to rest up over these next few days and enjoy it.

Q. (Inaudible.)?

JASON DAY: It's been great actually. A lot has changed winning the Nelson. On course, off course, a lot of things have changed personally. A lot of things have changed on the golf course as well. Most of it's been for the better. I matured a lot on the golf course which is a good thing. I'm trying to learn something each and every week. Obviously the day you stop learning is the day you go backwards. It's been a good 12 months, I'm just looking forward to next week, obviously defending there. But the next six months of the year I'm going to try and keep pushing.

Q. You talk about the mental grind and just trying to get some rest, how much of an advantage is it having two weeks at home?

JASON DAY: Well, it is. Coming of a Top 6 finish at PLAYERS. It's like eventually grinding on the body. It's physically grinding on the body and mentally grinding my mind.

So being here, it's good being at home, sleeping in your own bed. But you still for the to get up and play some golf. You still got to get down to business. Over time I'm slightly working out that maybe three weeks in a row, play two weeks, and get some rest. After every Major have a week off so you could mentally prepare for the next tournament.

Q. Having these two weeks close to home how much does that help?

JASON DAY: It helps a lot, obviously. We have a bus that we take on the TOUR. I always feel like I'm at home. This is the two weeks we get to stay home which is nice. We have a lot of friend and family. So I'm only 20 minutes from here and 30 minutes from The Byron. So it's a very, easy easy drive to get to each place. It's good to sleep in your own bed and have your own stuff.

Q. Advantage course wise having if familiarity at all?

JASON DAY: This week or next week?

Q. Both of them.

JASON DAY: Obviously I'm a member here so it kind of helps. I'll play here a number of times which is nice. I think it's the first time I played The Byron last year. I went out there last year. I'm just going to go out there and try to play the game plan that I had last year and see if it works.

Q. Have you played there since last year?

JASON DAY: Actually I did, media day.

Q. Not a real round?

JASON DAY: No, a media round.

Q. Is it a matter of managing your time?

JASON DAY: I think it's a number of things. It's managing your time. You have to manage. It's all about balance. You are out here playing golf, but you have a personal life. You want to make sure you spend time with your wife. Make sure you spend time with your friends. Golf is not like the No. 1 thing on my mind. It's a very big balance that you have to slowly over time learn how to balance it.

Q. Does it give you a sense of appreciation for the guys that have done it?

JASON DAY: Yes. It's just so hard to win on the PGA TOUR. It's been very, very tough. It blows my mind how Tiger did it constantly. It's just amazing how a great a golfer he is. To win 71 times out here, 14 majors, an amazing feat. Obviously he is not done yet. I'm still in the process of learning how to win more on a consistent basis. A consistent time. I'm just learning right now.
