LAURY LIVSEY: We would like to welcome Charlie Wi into the interview room. Charlie, you opened 64, 67, you're playing well; your thoughts as you head into the weekend.
CHARLIE WI: Well, I was really pleased with 64 yesterday. When I got out to the golf course, I saw so many low numbers, and I figured if I shoot 2 or 3 under in the afternoon that would be a good round. To shot 64 yesterday that was a bonus. The winds were a little bit calmer this morning than it was yesterday. To get a round of 67, I was pretty pleased this morning.
LAURY LIVSEY: Questions?
Q. Charlie, is this a course that you expect to do well? It seems to be a course that would fit your game?
CHARLIE WI: Well, you know people ask me what's your favorite golf course? I say it doesn't mean that you necessarily are going to do well. I really like the golf course. I've done well in the past. If you don't stay patient, this golf course can really bite you. So you really have to control your ball out there and stay patient to do well out here. The guys that finish on top on the weekend, you will see that they are very good ball strikers of the game.
Q. Let's talk about your score yesterday and today, and the wind you faced, it seems like you maybe caught the worst of the wind, yesterday for sure. Those are two pretty good scores for how windy it was?
CHARLIE WI: Yes, I played really solid yesterday. Not only did I hit the ball really well and put it in the right places, I made a lot of putts, and I think that's what it takes to shoot low scores.
So yesterday I made some putts from all over. I probably made the most putts out there yesterday. So I was pretty pleased. But today I had my opportunities, but I didn't get it done on the greens part. But I'm sure on the weekend, if I stay patient and stay aggressive, I hope to make some more birdies out there.
Q. What was the most outlandish putt that you made yesterday?
CHARLIE WI: I don't know, I made a lot of 15, 20, 30 footers. Not too many 30 footers. Probably 15 to 25 footers. I mean that doesn't happen that often.
Q. How were the conditions today and did you find yourself at any point kind of wondering are we going to get this in when you were look at the skies?
CHARLIE WI: I was one of the later groups in the morning round. And when we teed off it was really dark, and Mark Russell, the rules official, came up to us and said, you guys might have to 10 to 10:30, so we figured we might play about nine holes.
But to get a round, and get our round in, that was a bonus today. When we teed off the winds were pretty calm, and you were able to attack the pins. But the pins were a lot tougher today. So I don't believe that the scores are going to be as low as it was yesterday.
Q. Charlie, how has the putter been acting for you overall this year?
CHARLIE WI: You know, just like golf, it's very fickle. I haven't played up to my standards this year, thus far, but I've been working really hard and things turn around really fast in this game. So I've just been working really hard and hopefully my putter will be very hot this weekend.
Q. Is there anything that you have done to your game recently, changes that got you on a roll and did you feel a good week coming up going into this week?
CHARLIE WI: Last Saturday at PLAYERS CHAMPIONSHIP, I got to 8 under par, and I think I was Top 5. I didn't finish very strong. It's not that I've been playing poorly, it's just that I haven't been scoring. I've been making a lot of cuts, but I haven't had too many high finishes. That doesn't mean I'm playing poorly, I'm just not scoring. So this game is so tough at times, and I know that you just got to stay patient and let the good things come to you.
LAURY LIVSEY: Anything else? Charlie, thanks for your time. I appreciate it.
CHARLIE WI: Thank you.
