SCOTTSDALE, Ariz.-- One of the themes for the 2011 PGA TOUR season is the competition involving the Establishment vs. the New Breed. How will the established players -- those with significant TOUR experience and long-standing championship pedigree -- fare against the young, hungry up-and-comers who are looking to nudge their way into the TOUR's elite?
Each week, PGATOUR.COM will select two players -- one from the New Breed and one for the Establishment -- and analyze their chances heading into the tournament. We'll then track which player has the better score for his team, and keep a running team tally throughout the year.
This week for the Waste Management Phoenix Open, we've selected Jhonattan Vegas for the New Breed and Angel Cabrera for the Establishment, who will be grouped together (along with Camilo Villegas) in a potent Latin American threesome in the first two rounds at TPC Scottsdale.
It may not be the last time this threesome will be seen together. With The Presidents Cup on tap this year; each of the three has a chance to make the International squad.

ESTABLISHMENT AGE: 41 YEARS ON TOUR: He is in his fifth season as a PGA TOUR member. (But he played 76 events prior to joining the TOUR.) OVERVIEW: Cabrera has only won twice on the PGA TOUR -- but the 2007 U.S. Open and 2009 Masters are pretty good titles to have. The Argentine shot a final-round 76 on a difficult Oakmont course but still made up a four-stroke deficit to finish one stroke ahead of Tiger Woods and Jim Furyk. Cabrera survived a playoff at Augusta National to win his Masters, beating Chad Campbell and Kenny Perry, the latter on the second hole. Interestingly, Cabrera's best finish on TOUR other than in a major is third place at last year's Quail Hollow Championship. Prior to joining the TOUR, Cabrera played predominantly on the European Tour and he has 17 international wins. He learned the game as a caddy at Cordoba, which was the home course of his good friend Eduardo Romero. NICKNAME: El Pato (The Duck) HISTORY IN THIS EVENT: Cabrera has only played at TPC Scottsdale once in his career. He missed the cut in 2009 after shooting rounds of 79 and 69. OUTLOOK THIS WEEK: Cabrera had mixed results last week at the Farmers Insurance Open in his 2011 PGA TOUR debut. He shot a second-round 68 but didn't break 74 in the other three rounds. The unseasonably cold temperatures expected this week could also be a factor.

NEW BREED AGE: 26 YEARS ON TOUR: He is a rookie on the PGA TOUR. Vegas earned his card by finishing seventh on the Nationwide Tour money list last year. OVERVIEW: The rookie from Venezuela has taken the TOUR by storm in his rookie season. After a win at the Bob Hope Classic and a tie for third last week at the Farmers Insurance Open, Vegas leads the FedExCup standings as well as the TOUR's money list. No rookie had ever topped the FedExCup at any juncture in the season before this week. Vegas' first PGA TOUR victory -- which came in just his second start as a member -- was hard-fought in a two-hole playoff over Gary Woodland and Bill Haas. Vegas also played in the penultimate group Sunday at Torrey Pines and was tied for the lead twice before finishing third. Vegas came to the United States in 2002, learned English by immersing himself in the language and eventually graduated from the University of Texas with a degree in kinesiology. NICKNAME: Jhonny Vegas HISTORY IN THIS EVENT: Vegas has never played in the Waste Management Phoenix Open. This is Vegas's sixth event as a pro and his fourth straight this season. OUTLOOK THIS WEEK: With four rounds in the 60s at the Farmers Insurance Open, Vegas didn't show any signs of cooling off. He is 42 under in his first three tournaments of the season and hasn't shot over par since he shot 71 in the first round of the Sony Open in Hawaii. His next 10 rounds have all been in the 60s. Look for more of the same.
