Robert Allenby ran into a red-hot David Toms Sunday at Royal Melbourne.
Nov. 20, 2011

Editor's note: Melbourne native Robert Allenby is playing in his sixth Presidents Cup this week. The 40-year-old Australian didn't make the team in 1998, the last time the Presidents Cup was played at Royal Melbourne, so this week is particularly special for him. He'll share his experiences on PGATOUR.COM with this exclusive blog. This is his fifth and final installment.

MELBOURNE, Australia -- All I can think of is that today's match against David Toms was like Groundhog Day. I had some good holes. But I didn't play great and David Toms played fantastic. He hit every fairway and nearly every green. He made a bunch of putts, so he made it very hard for me to win any holes. It was disappointing, but that's the way golf is sometimes.

I think Melbourne put on a fantastic show for everyone. The golf course was wonderful and the crowds were great. It was an awesome event for Australia and I thought our whole team did extremely well. We fell short again, which is obviously a major disappointment for us all. But it was just one of those things. It wasn't as if we didn't all try. We gave it our best shot. it just wasn't good enough.

I had a lot of family and friends out there this week, and I appreciated their support. It was just disappointing to play so poorly in front of them. I mean, this is my hometown. To play the way I did, I felt like I let them down, as well. I wish I could have given them more to cheer about.

I will play in the Australian PGA next week and then I have two weeks off until my charity event, which raises money for kids with cancer. We hope to top the $20 million mark this year. I am really proud of that, and I am looking forward to the event. It's the same week as the Australian Masters, and I play there, as well. Then, I'm done for a while. I don't really know when I will still start the 2012 season. I'm looking forward to a little break.

Wish us luck with the Challenge, and thanks for supporting me and the International Team this week. I really appreciate it.
