Player Notes
Here are some of the players you'll see during Friday's coverage on Golf Channel:
KEEGAN BRADLEY
The 64 is the best opening round of Bradley's PGA TOUR career and matches his best career round on TOUR -- a second-round 64 at Atlanta Athletic Club at the PGA Championship earlier this year. This is also the first time Bradley has held a first-round lead in a PGA TOUR event. The first-round leader has gone on to win the TOUR Championship 10 of 24 times. Of the 11 rookies who began the Playoffs, Bradley is the only one to advance to the TOUR Championship. Including Bradley, only four rookies have reached the TOUR Championship in the FedExCup era -- with the previous three having been voted Rookie of the Year by their peers: Marc Leishman (2009), Andres Romero (2008) and Brandt Snedeker (2007). Bradley is searching for his third win of the season. Dating to when the TOUR started keeping stats on rookie wins in 1980, no rookie has won three events in their first season on TOUR. Bradley is looking to become the third player to win the TOUR Championship by Coca-Cola in his first appearance joining Chad Campbell (2003) and Bart Bryant (2005).
JASON DUFNER
Dufner is playing in the TOUR Championship for the second time in his career. He finished T19 in 2009. Dufner has two runner-up finishes, six top-10s in 2011 and is coming of a T6 finish at the BMW Championship last week.
CHEZ REAVIE
Reavie's impressive road to the TOUR Championship continued on Thursday with a 4-under 66. Reavie, who started the Playoffs at No. 76 in the standings, moved to No. 8 coming into the TOUR Championship thanks to a runner-up finish at the Deutsche Bank Championship and eighth-place finish at last week's BMW Championship. Reavie began the season on a Major Medical Exemption, and coupled with $112,994 earned in 2010, had 13 events to equal the earnings of No. 125 from the 2010 money list (Troy Merritt, $786,977). When he failed to do so, he entered the Non-Exempt, Major Medical Exempt category. With top-five finishes at the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial and the John Deere Classic highlighting the way, Reavie was able to secure a spot in the PGA TOUR Playoffs and has secured a 2012 PGA TOUR card while also finding himself in the hunt in the for the FedExCup. With his opening-round 66, Reavie has now shot par or better to open 10 of his last 11 tournaments, dating to the John Deere Classic. The 66 by Reavie is his 18th consecutive round of par or better dating to the first round of the Reno-Tahoe Open and his 23rd round of par or better in his last 24.
LUKE DONALD
Donald finished runner-up last year at the TOUR Championship, missing out on a playoff with champion Jim Furyk by one stroke. Despite his stellar season, Donald's opening-round 66 matches his best opening round of the 2011 season. He also shot 66 at the Deutsche Bank Championship where he finished T3. Donald has a unique opportunity to make golf history; he has a chance to win the season-long points races on both the PGA TOUR and European Tour.
WEBB SIMPSON
For most of the regular season, the 26-year-old was having one of the best years on TOUR without recording a victory. Even without a win, Simpson entered the final event of the year, the Wyndham Championship, No. 12 in the standings. In three events, he went from one of the best players without a win to one of the few guys on the PGA TOUR with two victories in 2011 by winning the final regular season event (Wyndham Championship) and the second PGA TOUR Playoff event (Deutsche Bank Championship). Simpson entered the TOUR Championship as the only player to post top-10 finishes in all three Playoffs events.
