INVERNESS, Scotland (AP) -- Lee Westwood took advantage of relatively benign conditions to shoot a 7-under 65 on the links course at Castle Stuart on Thursday and take an early one-shot lead in the first round of the Scottish Open.
Westwood, playing with defending champion Edoardo Molinari, made six birdies and an eagle in his opening round. A bogey at the 16th hole was his only setback.
With the early starters benefiting from only a moderate wind and sporadic showers, there were low scores everywhere, with South Africa's George Coetzee and Sweden's Peter Hanson one shot behind Westwood.
Donald, Molinari and Colin Montgomerie were among a group of players to card 5-under 67s.
