Player scenarios to advance in the Playoffs

EDISON, N.J. -- This week at the Barclays, 123 players will tee off as the PGA TOUR Playoffs for the FedExCup begin. Twenty-five players will be eliminated by the end of the week, while the remaining players will move on to next week's Deutsche Bank Championship.

Masters champ Charl Schwartzel, who ranks 21st in FedExCup points, is not in the field this week but has enough points to advance. J.B. Holmes, who ranks 66th in points, is undergoing non-life threatening brain surgery and will miss this week, as well as the rest of the Playoffs.

Using last year's points, it's expected that the top 87 players going into this week have their spots secured, while those players ranking 88th-125th still have work to do in order to advance to next week.

With points worth five times as much in the Playoffs event, big moves up the standings are possible. Two years ago, Heath Slocum won The Barclays and moved from 124th to third in the standings. Any player who wins this week could conceivably move into the top spot, depending on the results of other players.

Here is a look at the possible scenarios for each player in the field, based on last year's points totals. The top 100 is the key for making next week's field.
