Green to return, team with Reid at Legends of Golf

Ken Green is expected to make his return to competitive golf at the Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf.

SAVANNAH, Ga.-- Tournament officials have confirmed that amputee Ken Green will team with Mike Reid in his inspiring return to the game at the Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf in Savannah. The duo will compete in the official money Legends Division when the 33rd annual event returns to the Westin Savannah Harbor Golf Resort & Spa on April 19-25.

The Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf will be Green's first professional start since injuries sustained in a RV accident last June led to the amputation of his lower-right leg. His brother, girlfriend and dog were all killed in the crash. Green has undergone extensive rehabilitation with a prosthetic limb and will presumably become the first amputee to compete in a PGA TOUR sanctioned event with his start in Savannah.

His partner Reid is a two-time winner on both the PGA TOUR and Champions Tour who ended a winless drought of more than four years when he claimed the JELD-WEN Tradition last August en route to earning his second Champions Tour major. Green and Reid finished T25 together at last year's Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf.

"Ken's strength, courage and passion for the game are amazing and truly inspiring," said Joe Rotellini, Executive Director of the Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf. "We are both humbled and honored that he will compete here in Savannah and look forward to cheering him on as he reaches this significant milestone in the healing process."

Green was honored at a Golf Writers Association of America dinner in Augusta, Ga., last night where he and Tom Watson shared the 2009 Ben Hogan Award for remaining active in the sport despite a physical handicap or serious illness.
