MORE INTERVIEWS: Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial transcript archive

JOHN BUSH: We would like to welcome Blake Adams into the interview room after a 7 under par 63 that equals his career best on the PGA TOUR set earlier this year at the Verizon Heritage in the second round.

Blake, just one bogey on the card, eight birdies, a great day overall, if we could just get your comments.

BLAKE ADAMS: It was obviously a good day. This is a special place, a lot of history here. I'm very blessed to be here. I had a solid front 9 which was the back 9, and I guess I turned in 5 under and move to the front. You know, I was right in the middle of the fairway on No. 1 and had just a little chip 5 iron and hit a pretty terrible shot, made par which felt like a bogey.

I bogeyed No. 2 from 60 yards out. I had a wedge that I got a little greedy with. But after that, I had some good looks.

I actually missed 2 very makeable putts on 6 and 8 so it actually could have been really, really good. I will take it. It's day one and we have a long way to go.

Q. You made it through the horseshoe at 2 under, can you talk about going through there and how tough that stretch is and how you picked up some shots from the field?

BLAKE ADAMS: That is a very, very tough stretch. Obviously, I was fortunate enough not to have much wind. You know, I just hit good shots, you know. I just, you know, made a good putt on 3. The other one was on 5. I mean I just hit good shots. I was very fortunate to walk away with that score.

Q. You mentioned lack of wind, is this about as good as the scoring conditions can get out here?

BLAKE ADAMS: I think it was absolutely perfect day. The greens are perfect, rolling fantastic, the fairways are good. If you hit fairways and greens, you can obviously go low. I was expecting some low numbers out there, as I woke up and saw the forecast, but I was just fortunate to have a good number today.

Q. It's nice to keep the momentum going from last week?

BLAKE ADAMS: Absolutely. Sunday night was a pretty tough night. I was staring at the ceiling until about 4:30 in the morning. I'm always pretty hard on myself, and I definitely beat myself up pretty good. But I learned from it and woke up Monday. It's a new week, and obviously last week is last week, so I just use it as motivation and, you know, just move forward.

Q. How big was the putt there at 9 just to kind of give you a send off today, and get you into the lead and maybe a little bit extra mojo for tomorrow?

BLAKE ADAMS: Absolutely. Any time you birdie the last hole, it always makes dinner taste a little bit better. I had missed 2 makeable putts on 6 and 8, so that was a nice one to have fall on 9. So I obviously look forward to my tee time tomorrow, and I will try it again.
