FORT WORTH, Texas -- In a show of support for Susan G. Komen for the Cure and to help increase awareness of breast cancer, the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial is hosting its second annual Pink Out celebration. The tournament is encouraging all fans, officials, caddies and players to wear pink to the tournament this Saturday.

"Crowne Plaza is proud to be partnering with Colonial and Susan G. Komen for the Cure to support a cause that's so near and dear to the golf community -- both players and fans alike," said Gina LaBarre, vice president of brand delivery, Americas, InterContinental Hotels Group. "Crowne Plaza and its parent company IHG are committed to giving back."

Last year, PGA TOUR players got into the act, wearing various shades of pink during third-round play. Eventual Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial winner Steve Stricker was one of those players.

"It's great. It's just a way of showing support and raising awareness for breast cancer. It looks like most of the players had [pink] on today," Stricker said.

Tim Clark, who lost in a playoff to Stricker, agreed. "I think it's something we should do more often. There are a lot of us affected by breast cancer. There is never enough awareness that can be raised. It's great that it got the support that it did."

Following are some of the events being held in conjunction with the "Pink Out II."

Friday, May 28, 2010

• The Chesapeake Energy and Cash America building lights in downtown Fort Worth will be pink as a reminder of the tournament's Pink Out on Saturday.

Saturday, May 29, 2010

• PGA TOUR players and their wives, fans and sponsors are encouraged to wear pink in support of Susan G. Komen for the Cure and breast cancer awareness.

• IHG and Crowne Plaza will donate $100 for every birdie and $500 for every eagle made on Saturday to Susan G. Komen for a Cure. Donation totals for the day will be posted on electronic signage around the course.

• Tournament guests will be encouraged to make donations directly via Komen's text-to-donate program. Fans can make a $10 donation by texting KOMEN to 90999.

• Fans can also donate to the Komen Foundation at www.pgatour.com/pink

•· 50,000 fans will be distributed to tournament guests during the week, and on Saturday, the fans will be pink and will include Susan G. Komen for the Cure messages.

• Susan G. Komen will have a presence at the main entrance where fans can pledge their support and receive pink ribbons. The first 3,000 fans to do so will also receive pink pedometers.

• At 5:30 p.m. following play, 210 pink balloons will be released at the 18th green by a large group of breast-cancer survivors. The number is significant in that every three minutes, a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer in the United States. So from the start of the third round until 5:30 p.m., 210 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer.

PGATOUR.COM will have a special look on its home page Saturday, wrapping the PGA TOUR logo on the site in a pink ribbon and changing the words "PGA TOUR" in white at the top of our pages to pink. The main leaderboard box on the PGA TOUR homepage will also be given a pink treatment. Fans can donate to the Susan G. Komen foundation by clicking here.
