MORE INTERVIEWS: HP Byron Nelson Championship transcript archive

Q. What did you think of the day, playing with Jordan Spieth? He had the crowds.

COREY PAVIN: He's a really good player. When I was 16, I couldn't have come close to doing something like that, so pretty impressive, a lot of talent, and he composed himself very well. He got off to a bad start, couple of bogeys and came back, did very well. Pretty impressive.

Q. I assume you thought the people were all there for you on the first tee?

COREY PAVIN: They never are.

Q. Yeah, they are!

COREY PAVIN: I knew that he had a lot of people out here yesterday, and he was going to have more today, and it's fun. It must have been fun for him to come out here and have everybody following him and cheering for him, and I'm sure he had a blast.

Great experience for him to have, and he's going to have a lot more like that. I can't see how he he's going to be able to turn pro and do very well. Great kid.

Q. What about his game do you think makes that possible?

COREY PAVIN: He's got a very good short game, that's for sure, good putter, you know, just played pretty aggressive golf, very positive player. Didn't seem like he was afraid of anything. At that age to come out here and play that free is pretty impressive.

Q. Talk about the leaderboard. You guys both got within 3 of the lead at one point.

COREY PAVIN: I'm not sure

Q. I think you got to 7 under, and then it went to 10. You were in the mix.

COREY PAVIN: I didn't know, I figured it wasn't important for me to pay attention when I was at 7, but I knew I had to do better. I wish I'd made more birdies; I certainly wasn't happy with the way I finished.

Q. What betrayed you coming in?

COREY PAVIN: Just, you know, 16 was a little bit of a bad break and 17 was a bad break, hitting it over the green there. I thought I was going to catch a road to go down, and I didn't, and I didn't get it up and down, and I hit a bad tee shot on 18. I had so many putts today that brimmed the edge or lipped out and then to finish up with three bogeys wasn't pleasing.

Q. If some of those putts go in, you could have been right there.

COREY PAVIN: Yeah, "could have been." Great phrase in golf, isn't it?

Q. Yeah. Did he call you Mr. Pavin or what did he call you today?

COREY PAVIN: He just said, "Nice putt" or "Good shot" or something

Q. He avoided it?

COREY PAVIN: I told him to call me Corey, but I'm sure he was focused on what he was doing and trying to play the best he could, and so was I.

Q. "Nice tee shot, fellow"? What's coming up for you in the next couple of months?

COREY PAVIN: Playing next week at Colonial, so I've got chats with some guys there lined up. Phil is going to be there, and there will be a few guys that I'll talk to there. That will be on my list of things to do next week.

Q. Is that one of the reasons why you decided to do Colonial?

COREY PAVIN: That's one of the reasons, yeah.

Q. Also because you --

COREY PAVIN: I love Colonial; it's my favorite tournament, and no offense to the Byron Nelson, but I have a good record there. I've never missed the tournament, and I didn't want this to be the first year I missed it either.

Q. You've got to go there feeling fairly good.

COREY PAVIN: Yeah, I knew I was playing fairly well coming into this week, so I decided to flip and play it instead of the Senior PGA.

Q. Those guys aren't going anywhere. You can get 'em next year.

COREY PAVIN: I'll still be 50 next year!

Q. You're still young!
