MORE INTERVIEWS: SBS Championship transcript archive

JOHN BUSH: We would like to welcome our tournament leader at the SBS Championship. Lucas Glover an 8-under par 65. Lucas, I believe, eight threes in a 9-hole stretch.

LUCAS GLOVER: It was good, a slow start again. But I got it turned around in the middle of the front and lucky enough to eagle 9 again. That kind of got things going. But I didn't capitalize, the par 5's on the back, I left a couple out there. I made some putts I should have missed. And probably missed some I should have made. It's evened out. Playing well. Been luckily without wind. Been able to go at the flag and very aggressive. All in all pleased.

JOHN BUSH: Take us through the eagle on 9.

LUCAS GLOVER: The same thing yesterday, 3-wood, 3-wood to 12 feet. A big left to right turn, just curled it in, drove it in, went in last roll. Very happy to get that one in. It was, you know, you don't get many 12 footers for eagle. Nice to capitalize.

JOHN BUSH: What yardage did you have on that one?

LUCAS GLOVER: 227 front again, the exact same number as yesterday. 239 hole. We factored it uphill like 14 yards. But it was definitely 227 front if I remember right.

Q. You had an enormous experience out here, is it all odd to look out and just see a blue ocean with no white caps, flags that are flapping a bit, guys hats not blowing off?

LUCAS GLOVER: I was told at breakfast and lunch that nobody has been to Hawaii and had it this calm. I heard three or four guys say that. I said it when I was driving out this morning. It's nice for us. We get to be a little more aggressive and club selection is a lot easier. I wouldn't mind seeing it come up, have some goofy stuff go on just for fun. I'm happy the way it is. We'll see.

Q. Would you say the same thing if you weren't ahead?

LUCAS GLOVER: Yes. This course is designed for the wind. I'm not going to say I play great in the wind. I enjoy playing in it. It's a little wrinkle. I'm not wishing for it. I wouldn't be upset if it came.

Q. The tournament record is 31-under par, are you confident in breaking that record?

LUCAS GLOVER: No. I would like to. I don't know if that's feasible. Somebody might.

Q. How big does the 3-shot lead feel like in these conditions on this course?

LUCAS GLOVER: Not as much as if it were really howling. If it was howling, and par was a good score, and I was 8-under, and the next best was 5, I think it would be a total different feel. If somebody goes out first three tomorrow and birdies first three of 5, we will be tied. Something crazy like that. I expect that. These guys behind me have the same goal in mind, and they are going to play just as hard as I am. I expect to have to play well. I'm not going to back into anything this week.

Q. Lucas, given calm conditions, and the fact of low scoring, what sort of target did you have today?

LUCAS GLOVER: I didn't really. Just the same kind of things as yesterday. I saw the low scores pop-up early, and I knew they were going to be opportunities. I just want to give myself as many birdie putts as I could. And I did that. I made some nice ones and missed some, ones I thought I should have made. I didn't have a score in mind, just be patient and take advantage when I got opportunities.

Q. In the grand scheme of the round, you started off average and start to make birdies, talk about the par on 8?

LUCAS GLOVER: Yes, that was big. I just birdied 5, 6 and 7. I tried to right the ship after some average shots on the first few holes. I didn't hit a great shot, didn't catch a great break either and to make a 12 or 15-footer down the right for par, it felt like a birdie to me. It's weird to say that. But it did. And I think taking that to the ninth tree really helped.

Q. Lucas, that stretch from 5 to 14 yesterday, 9-under on 9 holes, today 8-under on 10 holes if I'm counting right, how comfortable do you feel on that middle stretch?

LUCAS GLOVER: I wouldn't mind starting there and finishing there if at all possible. A lot of holes, I hit 6-iron yesterday, 7-iron today. I feel I should make birdie there. And 6, if you hit a decent tee shot, 7 is a great hole. I hit a good shot today. 9 has been reachable. 10 has been a wedge. 11, a 9-iron or 8-iron. There is a lot of wedges in that area. Two par-5s are reachable. You just feel comfortable. And finishing on 14 and driving the par-4. You feel you are going to make some birdies there with the conditions that we had. I think because of the two par-5s, and a lot of short par-4's in a row. Those holes have been good to me and I hope that stays that way.

Q. Obviously there is a long way to go in this tournament, I just wondered if you kept an eye on the scoreboard today, at one stage 11 guys tied for the lead?

LUCAS GLOVER: Yes, I watch it all the time. If there is one, I take a look to see where I stand. Or to see how my buddies are playing or what not. I have always been that way. There was definitely a log [jamb|jam] there when I was at 7, 8 or 9. That's because of the conditions and the guys make a lot of birdies out here as we know. I wouldn't expect anything less the next two days either.

JOHN BUSH: Let's go through those birdies on the back 9, number 10.

LUCAS GLOVER: I hit a 3-wood and a 9-iron to a couple of feet. Next one, 13, driver and a wedge to a couple of feet again. 14, I drove it up right by the left bunker, chipped up to two feet. 16, driver and a wedge -- I hit the pin there. It was fortunate it came back off and knocked in about a 6-footer there.

JOHN BUSH: Lucas, play well this week.
