NEW DELHI (AP) -- Kim Hyung-sung of South Korea shot a 5-under 67 Thursday to take the first-round lead at the Indian Open.

Kim's bogey-free round came after deciding to play the Asian Tour event for the first time following his failure to qualify for a tournament in Japan.

Kim says he "holed three long putts from about 10 yards, at the 17th, 18th and third holes."

Baek Seuk-hyun, Namchok Tantipokakul, Sanjay Kumar, Marcus Both and Jbe Kruger are a shot back at the Delhi Golf Club course.

Former champion Arjun Atwal hit a 73. Atwal became the first Indian to win on the PGA Tour, in August at the Wyndham championship.

Atwal says "I just need to get to the range and hit some balls and putt a bit."
