Watson accepts European Tour honorary life membership

CARNOUSTIE, Scotland (AP) -- Tom Watson has been granted honorary life membership of the European Tour.

The eight-time major winner received the award at Carnoustie ahead of the Senior British Open, which began Thursday.

The 60-year-old Watson said it was a "great honor" and "totally unexpected."

Watson joins Arnold Palmer, Bob Charles and Gary Player among the greats who have received the award while Champions Tour players.
