With two weather delays, the first round just barely finished Thursday night. Here's what you can expect Friday. Another day with highs in the mid 80s and a 30 percent chance of scattered thunderstorms in the area. The winds are supposed to be a little stronger at 13 mph with gusts up to 20. As the greens and fairways dry out that will mean much trickier conditions on the course. I expect 5 under to be a good score for the day in Round 2, which I hope gets through without any delays.

Friday's forecast

Partly cloudy
Temp: 86 high/71 low
Chance of precipitation 30 percent. Winds from SSW at around 13 mph.

Best story I heard on the course was from Derek Lamely's girlfriend who got hit on the arm by a Jeff Maggert tee shot... OUCH! But in true girlfriend/trooper fashion she put a bag of ice on it and continued watching. More than I can say for myself! They are serving Wendy's Frosty's in the media center this week... so much for my diet!!

INSTRUCTOR'S CORNER: Ed Brill, head instructor at TOUR Academy Hilton Head Island, analyzes the playing conditions this week:

A great leaderboard is forming at Muirfield Village with Justin Rose, Rickie Fowler and Geoff Ogilvy leading at 7 under. Phil is only a couple of shots back at 5 under. Tiger Woods is trying to stay in it at even par. The rain has slowed down the putting surfaces a bit and that is probably a welcome change to the players. The course is going to play longer which bodes well for Andres Romero -- also near the top. Romero is one of the longest hitters on TOUR, while not being very big in stature. Anthony Kim and Fowler would also fit in that group. How do they do it?

First off they all have a great set up, grip, posture, ball position and alignment. They also maintain their positions as they swing. At the TOUR Academies when looking at video of students we see a lot grips that change and posture that changes as the swing is being made. It is very important to maintain those two fundamentals to get good speed in your swing and also maintain your balance.

Work on the fundamentals folks and good things are sure to follow.
