Parker McLachlin has his work cut out if he's going to make it to q-school's final stage.

PGATOUR.COM is your source for the latest results from this year's q-school. Play is under way at all six sites of second stage. Here is a look at what happened Wednesday.

For a second straight day, James Driscoll made just one bogey on his way to a 68 that has him atop the leaderboard at Redstone.

Driscoll, who made five birdies over the first 10 holes, is four shots clear of three others, including Matthew Goggin, who shot his second straight 69.

Chez Reavie, on the other hand, is one spot out of advancing in a tie for 20th at 1 over through two rounds. Reavie failed to break par for the second day in a row, making a double bogey on the 13th hole on his way to a 72.

Parker McLachlin is in a more precarious position.

A winner on the PGA TOUR two years ago, McLachlin is in danger of not advancing after a 74 Wednesday. He opened with a 77 and is tied for 59th.

Meanwhile, Mike Heinen and Dan McCarthy each withdrew. Heinen was 14 over when he pulled out, while McCarthy was 8 over.

Frank Lickliter, Robert Damron and Billy Horschel got off to solid starts in Wednesday's opening round with all three finishing at 3 under and in the top 13 on the leaderboard.

"It's always good to get off to a good start, but I haven't looked at a leaderboard all week and I won't look at one," said Horschel, who missed most of this season with a wrist injury. "I know how well I'm playing and how well the course is playing.

"You don't have to win this thing. You just have to finish 19th."

Horschel is also helped by the fact he'll play next season on a major medical extension if he needs it, which should get him into somewhere between 18 and 21 events, he estimates. Still, the former University of Florida standout would like to better his position on the priority list.

"I haven't played a lot this year," Horschel said. "I want to get more rounds in and I want to regain my card."

Other notables in the field who fared well included Will MacKenzie, Matt Every and Ty Tryon. All three shot 2-under 70 and are tied for 29th -- but just one shot out of a spot in the coveted 19 (and ties) that will advance to final stage.

It's been 13 years since Guy Boros was a regular on the PGA TOUR and 16 years since he won, but he took his latest first step back with a 7-under 64 Wednesday in Florida.

That was more than enough to put Boros, who has split time between the PGA TOUR and the Nationwide Tour for the last decade, atop the leaderboard with Seong Ho Lee four shots off the pace. Omar Uresti was another shot back.

Darron Stiles and and Len Mattiace each carded rounds of 70, while double heart transplant recipient Erik Compton opened with a 71, which has him in a tie for 13th.

Bob May, who took Tiger Woods to a playoff at the 2000 PGA Championship, is trying to work his way back to the PGA TOUR after spending this season on the Nationwide Tour. Wednesday, he shot a a 1-under 70 to sit in a tie for 20th at Bear Creek.

Richard Lee is the leader by one after a 65.

Other notables in the field include Danny Lee, who opened with a 73, Mark Hensby, who struggled to a 76 and Phil Tataurangi, who also shot 76.

Former British Open champion Todd Hamilton's only status on the PGA TOUR is as a past champion, but he left himself in good position after an opening-round 69. That has him three shots off the lead of Fielding Brewbaker.

Gary Woodland and Brenden Pappas, who is coming off a tie for 30th at Disney, are just two back of Brewbaker.

Meanwhile, Vance Veazey and Kyle Reifers both struggled, shooting 73 and 75, respectively.

Andres Gozales wasted little time in distancing himself from the rest of the field, opening with a 62 Wednesday that leaves him four shots clear of his closest competitor.

Meanwhile, PGA TOUR regular Kent Jones opened with a 67 that has him alone in third and one shot clear of Jeff Brehaut.

Other notables in the field include Brett Quigley (69/T8), Jonathan Kaye (70/T19), Kirk Triplett (73/T42) and Tadd Fujikawa (75/T61).
