PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. -- Jim Lehman, Sr., father of PGA TOUR and Champions Tour golfer Tom Lehman, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 28 after complications during lung surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. Lehman was 75.

Lehman was a football standout at St. John's University in Minnesota where he was a four-year letterman for the legendary coach John Gagliardi, the winningest all-time coach in college football history with 469 career victories.

Lehman was a record-setting two-way player for the Johnnies and led the country in scoring in 1956. Following graduation, Lehman enlisted in the Navy and then played briefly for the Baltimore Colts, who went on to win the NFL title in 1958 in what was considered the greatest game ever played. Unfortunately, Lehman was not on the active roster at the time after having his career cut short due to injuries.

Jim Lehman, Sr., is survived by his sons, Jim (51), Tom (50) and Michael (42). Tom Lehman withdrew from the Charles Schwab Cup Championship earlier this week.

The Lehman family asks that in lieu of flowers that donations be made to St. Johns University in Collegeville, Minn.
