PORTO SANTO, Madeira Islands (AP) -- Joakim Haeggman had five birdies in six holes for a 5-under 66 Thursday and a two-stroke clubhouse lead in the first round of the Madeira Islands Open.
The 39-year-old Swede was on par through the front nine but then birdied the 10th and holed another four birdies from the 12th.
Haeggman, who became the first Swede to represent Europe in the Ryder Cup in 1993, leads Andrew Butterfield, Estanislao Goya and Carl Suneson by two strokes.
The Seve Ballesteros-designed Porto Santo course is on a small island off Madeira, a Portuguese archipelago in the Atlantic, west of Morocco.
