Greatest moments: 15th, 16th moments unveiled

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. -- The 15th and 16th moments in the Nationwide Tour's "20 Greatest Moments" program have been unveiled and feature Daniel Summerhays becoming the first amateur to win a Nationwide Tour event in 2007 and Nationwide Insurance assuming the Tour's umbrella sponsorship in 2002.

2007 / Daniel Summerhays becomes first amateur to win a Nationwide Tour event
Playing on a special invitation as one of eight first-team college All-Americans in the 2007 Nationwide Children's Hospital Invitational, Daniel Summerhays outlasted a strong field to win the inaugural event held in Nationwide's hometown of Columbus, Ohio. In so doing, the Brigham Young University product became the first amateur to enter the winners' circle in Nationwide Tour history. Just two summers earlier, Summerhays had been in the final stages of a two-year Mormon mission in Santiago, Chile. WATCH

2002 / Nationwide Insurance inks umbrella sponsorship agreement
In July 2002, PGA TOUR Commissioner Tim Finchem announced that Nationwide Insurance would become the Tour's umbrella sponsor, beginning in 2003, with a five-year agreement. The partnership proved to be an excellent one for both Nationwide and the Tour, and in 2007, the agreement was extended for five years, making Nationwide the longest running sponsor in the Tour's history. With Nationwide "on the side" of the players, the season-long drama to earn one of "THE 25" available PGA TOUR cards is significantly heightened and ensures that the distinguished list of Nationwide Tour alumni who are impacting the PGA TOUR will grow every year. The four remaining "Greatest Moments" will be unveiled during the next two Nationwide Tour telecasts on GOLF CHANNEL airing in September, and on PGATOUR.COM. Two new moments will be featured each week.

The Utah Championship presented by Utah Sports Commission (Sept. 10-13) is GOLF CHANNEL's next Nationwide Tour event. The final two moments will be revealed the following week during the Albertsons Boise Open presented by Kraft (Sept. 17-20).

The No. 1 moment in Nationwide Tour history will be announced on GOLF CHANNEL and PGATOUR.COM on the final day of the season (Oct. 25) during the Nationwide Tour Championship at Daniel Island (S.C.). The greatest moment will be based on a fan vote conducted on PGATOUR.COM that will commence after all 20 moments have been revealed.

The "20 Greatest Moments" is the centerpiece of this year's 20th-year celebration of the Nationwide Tour. The roster of "Moments" features events and activities that have had significant bearing on the evolution, growth, impact and promotion of the Tour over the last 20 years, both on and off the golf course. "Moments" will involve alumni highlights from the Nationwide Tour and PGA TOUR and will span the late 1980s, '90s and current decade.
