WORLD GOLF CHAMPIONSHIPS | Upsets often the norm at WGC Accenture Match-Play ChampionshipFeb. 14, 2008Expect the unexpected. That could be the motto of the World Golf Championships-Accenture Match Play Championship. Now entering its 10th season, the Accenture Match Play Championship has provided some exciting and oftentimes, unpredictable, golf. While the number one seed has done extremely well over time, winning 29 matches while losing only eight and taking home two titles, other high seeds have not fared so well. For example, the number two seed is just slightly over .500 with an 11-9 record and the number five seed has a losing record at 6-9. On the other hand, seeds 59, 60 and 62 all have winning records. Further, seeds #52 through #62 have three tournament titles?as many as the Top-10 seeds. Want more? Top four seeds have reached the finals four times, however, seeds 50 or higher have also reached the finals four times. It's an exciting event that has seen the final man in the field, the #64 seed, beat the #1 seed. It has seen matches end 9&8, or take 26 holes to complete. The following is a breakdown of how the Accenture Match Play Championship has played out over the past nine seasons.
