36-hole leaderboard
Player Score
1 Marc Turnesa 65-68 -11
T2 Paul Stankowski 69-65 -10
T2 Will MacKenzie 70-64 -10
T2 Brian Gay 66-68 -10
T2 Dicky Pride 67-67 -10

• This represents the second time Marc Turnesa has held the 36-hole lead in a PGA TOUR event. The first came at the 2008 Stanford St. Jude Championship, where he eventually finished T37.

• The cut came at 2-under-par 142, with 78 players advancing to the weekend.

• Will MacKenzie equaled his season-best score with an 8-under 64 on Friday to move just one shot behind Marc Turnesa. The 33-year-old native of Greenville, NC also recorded a 64 during the second round of the John Deere Classic on his way to a season-best T4 finish (his only top-25 finish of the year). MacKenzie, currently No. 178 on the official money list, finished T66 in 2005 in his only previous appearance at the Viking Classic.

• Paul Stankowski's 7-under 65 fell just one shy of the season-best 64 he recorded during the third round of the Mayakoba Golf Classic-which led to his only top-20 showing of the year (T12). The two-time PGA TOUR winner needs a good week in Madison, as he has made just five cuts in 13 starts this season. Stankowski has played well in his six previous starts at the Viking Classic, with a T3 finish in 1999 and a T4 effort in 2003.

Kevin Na equaled Will MacKenzie's round of the day with an 8-under 64. It represented an 11-stroke turnaround from his 3-over 75 on Thursday.

• Two-time Viking Classic champion Fred Funk posted an even-par 72 on Friday, marking just the second time in his last 26 rounds at the Viking Classic that he hasn't posted a round below par. Aside from his three missed cuts (1990, 1996 and 2008) at the Viking Classic, Funk has never failed to finish outside of the top 25 at the tournament, including five top-10 finishes in his last seven starts.

• The 36-hole leader has won 18 of 39 stroke-play events on the 2008 PGA TOUR.

Bo Van Pelt has played in the last four Viking Classics. During that streak, he has recorded scores below par in all 14 rounds. Friday's 3-under 69 moved him into a tie for ninth place.

David Duval (69-69) has posted back-to-back rounds in the 60s for the first time since closing the 2006 Bank of America Colonial with rounds of 68-69-68 -- a span of 36 tournaments. Duval is five shots behind Turnesa at 6-under 138.

• After going almost six months without making a cut since finishing T60 at the Mayakoba Golf Classic on February 24th, John Daly has now made the cut in his last two appearances. He finished T50 at the regular-season ending Wyndham Championship and has posted rounds of 70-67 this week to move to T9 on the leaderboard.

• Dicky Pride had a hole-in-one on the par-3 second hole with a 4-iron from 204 yards. The ace is the 23rd on TOUR in 2008 and the first at the Viking Classic since Boo Weekley performed the feat on the 12th hole during the second round in 2007.

• Will MacKenzie posted a bogey-free round for the second consecutive day. His mistake-free round was one of 10 on the day at the Annandale Golf Club, bringing the total for the week to 20. Players without a bogey on Friday included MacKenzie, Brian Gay, Justin Bolli, Greg Kraft, Chris Riley, Gavin Coles, Cameron Beckman, Jeff Overton, Ted Purdy and Kyle Thompson.

Brent Geiberger (bad back) and Mark Hensby withdrew prior to the start of the second round, while Robert Garrigus (wrist injury) withdrew during the round.
