PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. -- Academy Award and Golden Globe winner Morgan Freeman has lent his recognizable voice to six historical vignettes that will air during THE PLAYERS Championship. He also read taglines for the tournament's promotional PSAs, which will run within PGA TOUR event telecasts beginning tomorrow and through THE PLAYERS Championship.

In the vignettes, Freeman narrates memorable moments in tournament history that feature Tiger Woods, David Duval, Vijay Singh, Phil Mickelson, Davis Love III and former PGA TOUR Commissioner Deane Beman. The vignettes debut on Thursday, May 8, during GOLF CHANNEL's coverage of first-round action, and continue through Friday's telecast and NBC's coverage on Saturday and Sunday.
Freeman, an avid golfer, plays out of TPC Southwind in Memphis, Tenn., and recorded the voice-overs in New York while rehearsing for his role in "The Country Girl," which also stars Frances McDormand and opened on Broadway on April 3.
"Mr. Freeman was extremely gracious with his time, and we couldn't be happier with the results," said Kent Simon, PGA TOUR VP of advertising. "You only have to spend a few moments with him to learn that he loves golf, and we are very privileged to have his unmistakable voice associated with THE PLAYERS."
