TOURNAMENT RECAP: THE PLAYERS' first playoff saw the fast-finishing Raymond Floyd, with a 68, win. He had matched Curtis Strange and Barry Jaeckel at 3-under-par 285 and won the title with a chip to within a foot at the 175-yard par-3 15th hole at Sawgrass Country Club when all three players missed the green with 6-iron tee shots. Floyd's 14th PGA TOUR victory set the tournament record for the best comeback win at six strokes.
