Carl Pettersson's great play at this year's Wyndham Championship was in part due to his performance on the front nine. Through the first two rounds, Pettersson had taken only 59 strokes on the first nine holes. This ties the second-lowest total on the front nine through the first two rounds of a PGA TOUR Event in the last 25 years. The lowest score was by Corey Pavin at the 2006 U.S. Bank Championship in Milwaukee, where Pavin took only 57 strokes in route to a victory.

The only other player to shoot below 60 on the front nine through the first two rounds in the last 25 years is Tiger Woods (59 at the 2007 THE TOUR Championship and 59 at the 1997 GTE Byron Nelson Golf Classic). Pavin, Woods and now Pettersson have each been victorious in the tournaments in which they have accomplished this feat.
