MAINEVILLE, Ohio (AP) -- T.J. Vogel shot a 6-under 66 on Wednesday to take a one-stroke lead in the boys' division in the Junior PGA Championship, while Danielle Frasier had a 68 to top the girls' competition.
"Pretty much everything went right, especially my putting," said Vogel, from Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. "I drove the ball really well off the tee also to be honest. I missed a few fairways, but when I did, I made a few birdies even from the rough. I am just comfortable at this place."
Clark Fry of Manhattan, Kan., was second, and Cody Martin of Union, Ky.; Tyler McCumber of Ponte Vedra, Fla.; and Anthony Paolucci of Dallas opened with 68s at TPC River's Bend.
Frasier, from Encinitas, Calif., is coming off a two-stroke victory last week in the Emerson Junior Golf Classic in Santee, Calif.
"I shot a good score today, and I really put a lot of good swings on the ball, but I want to go out tomorrow and forget about it and keep it going for all four rounds," Frasier said. "I want to walk away from this week and feel good about my game."
Katie Sylvan of San Diego was one stroke back.
Alexis Thompson of Coral Springs, Fla. -- the winner last year -- shot a 74.
"My putting on the front nine was bad. There were some easy holes that I could have birdied, and I did not," the 13-year-old Thompson said. "I started to putt better on my back nine and just hit the ball better overall. I am confident going into the weekend, and I am going to try and shoot under par the rest of the week."
