MUNICH, Germany (AP) -- Martin Kaymer grabbed a five-stroke lead with a 9-under 63 Friday in the second round of the BMW International Open.

Kaymer, last year's tour rookie of the year, collected nine birdies for a 13-under 131 after two rounds in a bid to become the first German winner of the event in its 20-year history.

"I get goosebumps when I see the crowds. Yesterday there was a lot of people, today there was more," Kaymer said. "I would have been maybe four or five under, but my putting was so good."

Miguel Angel Jimenez, the leading European money-winner, struggled to a 75 and missed the 1-under cut with 144. John Daly also missed the cut with a 72 for 144 after three straight back nine bogeys.

Sharing second at 136 were two players chasing their first title, Frenchman Francois Delamontagne after a 66 and English player Benn Barham with a 68.

Henrik Stenson shared third, another stroke back, with a 69 on a warm, windless day.

The 23-year-old Kaymer won his first title at Abu Dhabi in January and is touted as one of Europe's most promising young players -- and the German successor to two-time Masters champion Bernhard Langer.

On the sixth hole, as Langer eagled and Kaymer birdied, the two high-fived each other.

"It was a pleasure to watch him," Langer said. "I don't think there's any limits for him if he keeps that up. I told him, 'You're very aggressive, but you're smart at the same time, like Tiger Woods is or Phil Mickelson.'"

Kaymer will try to win the only event on home soil that eluded Langer, who has 11 titles in Germany among 72 won worldwide. Langer's 72 Friday left him well out of competition at 142.

"I would still like to win it, but I'm running out of time," the 50-year-old Langer said.

Paul Casey with a 68 and Retief Goosen and David Howell with a 69 remained near the top of the leaderboard at 138.
