Geoff Ogilvy started Friday's second round of the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial flirting with the cut line. He made sure he stayed around for the weekend, though, when he shot the day's best round of 64.

Geoff Ogilvy shot a 64 on Friday.

The round of 6 under moved the Aussie from a tie for 72nd into a tie for 11th -- just three strokes off the lead held by Phil Mickelson at 7 under. Bart Bryant also made a big leap up the leaderboard. He started the second round tied with Ogilvy and rode a 65 into a tie for 16th at 3 under.

A total of 80 players made the cut, which came at 2-over 142.

Jason Bohn, Tim Herron and Steve Elkington also avoided a missed cut with rounds of 67 on Friday. Each was on the outside looking in, tied for 94th, when they teed off but they'll now start the third round sharing 35th. Three other players who shared 94th -- Rich Beem, Daniel Chopra and Rocco Mediate -- assured themselves of a paycheck with 68s in the second round that moved them into a tie for 52nd.

Heath Slocum and Olin Browne were among those making the cut on the number at 2-over par after both had started the day in a tie for 110th. Slocum used a 32 on his front nine, his second of the day, to fuel his 68. Browne's birdie on the sixth hole, his 15th of the day, was the insurance he needed.

Rookie Dustin Johnson also survived, making the cut on the number -- but he may have taken the most unusual route. He aced the 13th hole to get to even par for the tournament and 3 under for the day but he had to sweat things out a little when he made bogeys on his final two holes.

Unfortunately, Dudley Hart made the biggest move in the wrong direction. He started the second round tied for fifth after a 67 but Friday's 76 -- which included a closing 39 and a bogey on the 17th hole, sent him home early at 3 over for the tournament.
