The eyes of the world were affixed upon Miami last weekend as the best of the best competed in the World Golf Championships -- CA Championship and Tiger Woods tried to secure his fourth TOUR win of the season. Crazy weather controlled the pace of the tournament, though, and Tiger ended up going home in solo fifth place.

LAST WEEK:

Event: World Golf Championships -- CA Championship
Co-sanctioned by: PGA TOUR, European Tour, Asian Tour, Japan Golf Tour, PGA TOUR of Australasia and the Sunshine Tour
Australia's Geoff Ogilvy proved his 2006 U.S. Open victory was not just a fluke last week as he once again went up against some of the best golfers in the world and came out on top. Ogilvy's final-round 71 was just enough to eke out a one-shot victory over Retief Goosen, Jim Furyk and Vijay Singh, who all shot final-round 68s.
• With this win, Ogilvy joined a group of only three golfers who have won multiple World Golf Championship events. The other two are Tiger Woods and Darren Clarke.
• Tiger Woods finished just one shot back from the trio tied for second place also with a final-round 68, and Steve Stricker fired an impressive 63 in the fourth round to come up the rear with a tie for sixth place along with England's Graeme Storm and Australia's Nick O'Hern.
• More than anyone's play at Doral Golf Resort, the weather made the biggest impression on the week. Dangerous storms had the players sitting and waiting for hours to continue their rounds, and the tournament did not finish until Monday morning, after which, several players had to race to Orlando to compete in the Tavistock Cup.
• Other notable finishes at Doral were Zach Johnson and Adam Scott sharing a tie for ninth place, Justin Rose and Sergio Garcia tied for 15th place and India's Jeev Milkha Singh in a tie for 26th place.

Event: Madeira Islands Open BPI -- Portugal
Sanctioned by: European Tour
Scotland tasted the sweetness of success in Portugal as Alastair Forsyth survived the pressure of extra holes and defeated Hennie Otto of South Africa in a playoff for the trophy. It was the second time Forsyth has gone up against Otto in extra holes; he defeated the South African 12 years ago in a playoff for the Scottish Amateur Stroke Play title. Playoffs appear to be the way to go for Forsyth, who earned his first European Tour victory in a 2002 playoff against Stephen Leaney for the Malaysian Open.
• With a Thursday 70, a Friday 70 and a Saturday 66, the Scot started the final round five shots behind Otto, who shot three-consecutive 67s. However, Otto's final-round 72 had nothing on Forsyth's 67.
• Other notable finishes at the Madeira Open include a tie for 15th from Brazil's Adilson Da Silva and Wales' Bradley Dredge.

THIS WEEK:

Event: MAPFRE Open de Andalucía by Valle Romano
Sanctioned by: European Tour
Spain's Aloha Golf Club will host this week's event, where Europe's No. 3 Lee Westwood will try to defend his title. His win in Andalucía last year ended a four-year drought for Westwood while increasing his career wins, at the time, to 17.
• Other notable players to look out for in the field at Aloha GC this week are Martin Kaymer -- fresh off his second World Golf championships appearance -- José Maria Olazábal and South Africa's James Kamte who has already secured himself a win this year on the Sunshine Tour.

Event: Safeway International presented by Coca-Cola
Sanctioned by: LPGA
Last year's LPGA No. 1 Lorena Ochoa, who has slipped to third on the money list this year behind Annika Sorenstam and Paula Creamer, will be defending her title this week in Superstition Mountain, Ariz. The Mexican superstar shot 18-under par in the 2007 event to defeat Suzann Pettersen by two strokes.
• Also look out for Sorenstam and Creamer this week as well as MasterCard Classic winner Louise Friberg to give Ochoa a chase for the title.

Event: Chinama Hills 2008 Zambia Open
Sanctioned by: Sunshine Tour
South Africa's Steve Basson will be hoping for a hat trick next week in Zambia as he attempts to win the event for the third-consecutive time. Basson's 2006 win was only his second on the Sunshine Tour, and his successful defense in 2007 of the Chinama Hills title was the first time a player had achieved the feat in Sunshine Tour history.
• Ready to break Basson's winning streak in the field next week will be Marc Cayeux and Mark Murless. James Kamte, Nic Henning and Richard Sterne have all withdrawn from the tournament.

Event: Open Championship International Final Qualifying
Sanctioned by: Asian Tour
Asia's best will be attempting to qualify for the British Open Tuesday and Wednesday of this week at the Sentosa Golf Club in Singapore.

NEXT WEEK:

• The European Tour remains in Portugal for the Estoril Open at Oitavos Dunes.
• The Sunshine Tour will head to Bloemfontein Golf Club for the Vodacom Origins of Golf Free State.
• The Asian Tour will play the Phillipine Open at Wack Wack Golf and Country Club in Manila.
• The LPGA will remain on the West coast for the Kraft Nabisco Championship in Rancho Mirage, Calif.

Not playing this week:
The Japan Tour still has a couple more weeks of rest before it kicks off its season April 10 at the PRGR Cup.
• The PGA Tour of Australasia had its final event last week at the World Golf Championships -- CA Championship until August when it will return for the third World Golf Championships event of the year at Firestone Country Club.
