PGA European Tour

• Last week, the European Tour played the Commercialbank Qatar Masters presented by Dolphin Energy at Doha Golf Club in Qatar, where PGA TOUR member and 2002 Qatar champion Adam Scott shot 11-under par during his final round to beat out Henrik Stenson (who won in 2006) by three strokes for the win. Scott took home just over $420,000 in winnings.
• Other notable names in the field were Sergio Garcia (tied for seveth), Luke Donald, Paul Casey, Scott Verplank, Ian Poulter, Miguel Angel Jimenez, Colin Montgomerie (finished sixth) and Robert Karlsson. Retief Goosen won the 2007 Qatar Masters but was not in the field to defend his title.
• This week, the European Tour heads to the Dubai Desert Classic, where Tiger Woods will be intimidating the field. Henrik Stenson will defend his 2007 title, as the players compete for a first-place prize of just under $420,000.
• Other notables in the field at the Dubai Desert Classic are Colin Montgomerie, Ernie Els, Ian Poulter, Paul Lawrie, Mark O'Meara, Sergio Garcia and Niclas Fasth.
• Next week, look for the European Tour to head east for the Emarr-MGF Indian Masters.

Sunshine Tour

• Last week on the Sunshine Tour, the players competed in the Dimension-Data Pro-Am at Gary Player Country Club and Lost City Golf Club in Sun City. Last year's champ Louis Oosthuizen was not in the field to defend his title, which was claimed for 2008 by James Kamte of South Africa. Kamte shot an impressive five birdies on his back nine to card a 70 in the final round and finish 11-under for the tournament, three shots ahead of local favorite James Kingston, who finished in solo second. With his win, Kamte earned just under $40,000 and also became the first black South African to win an event in the Sunshine Tour's tough summer schedule.
• Other notables in the field at the Dimension-Data Pro-Am were Thomas Aiken (who plays on the Nationwide Tour), Deane Pappas and Tjaart Van Der Walt.
• This week on the Sunshine Tour, the players head to Wild Coast Sun Country Club for the Nashua Masters where Jean Hugo will defend his 2007 title against a field that includes Deane Pappas and Tjaart Van Der Walt.
• Next week, the Sunshine Tour will play the Africa Open.

Not playing this week

• Look for the Asian Tour to kick off its 2008 schedule on Feb. 7 at the Emaar-MGF Indian Masters.
• The LPGA does not have an event until Feb. 14, when golf's premier female golfers will play the SBS Open at Turtle Bay.
• The PGA Tour of Australasia also will not play a tournament until Feb. 14 -- the HSBC NZ PGA Championship.
• Finally, the Japan Golf Tour will begin its 2008 schedule at the Token Homemate Cup on April 17.
