Birdie barrage gives Edfors two-shot lead in Qatar

DOHA, Qatar (AP) -- Johan Edfors of Sweden had four birdies in his last five holes Friday and finished with a 6-under 66 to take a two-stroke lead after the second round of the Qatar Masters.

Overnight co-leader Lee Westwood of England (70) and Charl Schwartzel of South Africa (67) were tied for second.

"I gave myself good opportunities to score birdies despite tough weather conditions,'' said Edfors, who was at 9-under 135 as temperatures plummeted at the Doha Golf Club. "The greens were quite firm today, probably because of the weather, but I played a solid round of golf today.''

Schwartzel had five birdies in a bogey-free round.

"I think 67 out there is a very good score,'' he said. "I had four layers of clothing on. It was cold today, but you've got to cope with it.''

First-round co-leader Anton Haig of South Africa (71), Alexander Noren of Sweden (69) and England's David Howell (68) and Ross McGowan (68) were three shots off the lead.

Colin Montgomerie and Nick Dougherty of England and Henrik Stenson of Sweden were a shot further back.

Paul Casey of England shot a 74 for a two-round total of 146 and missed the cut. Former champion Joakim Haeggman of Sweden also missed the cut.
