Deutsche Bank Championship: Final-Round Notebook

Sep. 3, 2007

NORTON, Mass. -- Mark Calcavecchia was the first man off the tee Monday morning in the Deutsche Bank Championship and played as a single. Calcavecchia shot a round of even-par 71 and completed his round in 2 hours and 7 minutes.

• Rookie Brandt Snedeker turned in a 5-under-par 66 Monday to wind up at 2 under for the tournament. Snedeker's final-round efforts were worth an extra 33 FedExCup points. Snedeker began the day in a three-way tie for 70th place (99 points) but moved up to finish tied for 47th place (132 points). Despite his solid play Monday, the 2007 Wyndham Championship winner dropped from No. 14 to No. 17 in the FedExCup standings.

• FedExCup points leader Steve Stricker put together another solid week with rounds of 67-69-69-71 and wound up tied for ninth. Stricker collected 1,250 points this week but dropped to second place in the FedExCup points list.

Troy Matteson, No. 57 in the points standings, shot a 70 Monday to tie for ninth place. This is Matteson's third top-10 finish of the year and his first since a tie for third at the John Deere Classic two months ago. He moved from No. 57 to No. 44 on the FedExCup points list.

Dean Wilson shot a 3-under par 68 despite a two-stroke penalty before he hit his first shot. Wilson was 2 minutes late to the tee for his 8:50 a.m. start. By the time he had arrived, playing partner Kenny Perry was halfway down the first fairway. The rule allows for a total of five minutes from a player's scheduled tee time before he is disqualified.

• Rookie John Mallinger birdied three of his final four holes for a bogey-free 3-under 68. Mallinger's late push helped him to finish tied for 14th and earn a spot in next week's BMW Championship. Mallinger began the week No. 71 on the FedExCup points list and jumped to No. 61.

• Players ranked 1-40 on the inaugural FedExCup points list at the start of the week have already guaranteed their spot in next week's BMW Championship. Players from 41 to 64 at the start of the week are considered "probable" to make it to Chicago.

Tiger Woods failed to rally on Sunday, shooting a final-round 67 to wind up in a three-way tie for second. Perhaps Woods was just too far back after the first round to make up the distance. Woods' opening-day 72 left him in a tie for 73rd place.

Justin Leonard had two eagles Monday, both on par 5s (Nos. 2 & 18).

• TPC Boston played tougher on Monday than it had all week. The par-72 layout averaged 71.493 after playing to a stroke average of 70.635 on Friday, 70.844 on Saturday and 69.973 on Sunday.
