Blog: Glover fighting to make it into all four Playoff events

Sep. 2, 2007

Editor's note: Lucas Glover, who recently was chosen by Jack Nicklaus as one of the two players to round out his Presidents Cup team, entered this week's Deutsche Bank Championship ranked 47th in the FedExCup. Glover polished off a solid 65 at the TPC Boston Sunday to move into the top 10 entering the final round. After he was done, Glover took time to file another installment of his blog for PGATOUR.com.

NORTON, Mass. -- It's been a good week, so far. We met with Captain Nicklaus on Wednesday evening. Everyone on the team was there, except for Scott Verplank, who took this week off, and it was neat. He went over the details of getting to Montreal and what we'll do early in the week and how we're going to pair up and all that stuff.

That was a goal I wanted to accomplish, and luckily I did, so I've been thinking about it a lot. I'm getting excited. I planned a week off before to practice and get ready, and I'm going to go up there with my game in shape to help the team. It's going to be a great experience.

I think now that the pressure of trying to make that team is gone, I'll be able to play a little but more freely. There's still a lot I want to accomplish. It looks like I'm already in the BMW Championship next week, and I really want to try and get in THE TOUR Championship presented by Coca-Cola in Atlanta.

You know, it seems like there's always something. When you're on the outside looking in, there's always something else to play for. So that's kind of where I'm at now, and I had an opportunity today to put myself right up there but I kind of let it get away. Sometimes that's just the way it goes.

I'm in the top 10 going into the final 18 holes, so that's good. But today was one of those rounds that could have been silly. I hit it good all day. But I made two bogeys with a 9-iron on Nos. 15 and 17 -- just a couple of mediocre shots that turned out pretty poor and I didn't get it up and down. Then I had 6 feet for eagle at the 18th hole and missed it, too. So I just left a lot out there, I guess. That's hard to say after shooting 5 under, but it's true. We'll figure it out tomorrow. I've still got one more day. I know what I need to work on, and I'm going to take advantage of some time this afternoon and get it done.

I don't know what it will be like next week at the BMW Championship. I really want to get in THE TOUR Championship so I have to make my way into the top 30 in the FedExCup standings somehow. It just kind of depends on tomorrow, I guess. I think I probably have to win or finish second or third or something to get in the top 30. But I've got a day and a week to do it.

I think the crowds are happy about the way the Playoffs are going, so it's fun for them. But for me, it will probably be the same approach as this week -- just try to win a golf tournament. You play well, you get what you want.
