The tournament, held at Montreux Golf & Country Club, will be renamed the Legends Reno-Tahoe Open, highlighting The Legends at Sparks Marina, RED Development's $1.2 billion shopping and entertainment destination in nearby Sparks, Nev. The increase in sponsor support from RED will allow the tournament to realize its vision of building the event into a significant social and cultural happening for the entire area. "We are very pleased to announce this new sponsorship for our Reno-Tahoe event, support that will invigorate the grand plans for revamping the tournament and making it a centerpiece of community activity," PGA TOUR Commissioner Tim Finchem said. "We look forward to working with RED Development to showcase both the tournament and RED's capabilities through this sponsorship." "As new members of the Reno-Sparks and Lake Tahoe communities, RED Development and The Legends at Sparks Marina are proud to be affiliated with the Reno-Tahoe Open and one of the most highly recognized names in the world of sports, the PGA TOUR," said Steve Graham, vice president of destination development at RED Development. "We're thrilled to be involved, especially as the tournament celebrates its 10th anniversary, and to support the solid tradition of professional golf in the region. We are looking forward to an exciting year." The Legends Reno-Tahoe Open first was held in 1999, when Notah Begay III captured the title. Steve Flesch won this year's event by five strokes over Charles Warren and Kevin Stadler, the first of his two titles in 2007. Other notable champions include Scott Verplank and Kirk Triplett. "The Reno-Tahoe Open's new partnership with RED Development and The Legends at Sparks Marina is a tremendous opportunity for the tournament to continue its record growth and increase it's visibility on the TOUR as well as locally and regionally," said John Sande, tournament chairman for the Legends Reno-Tahoe Open. "The tournament has been a prestigious event within the region. With the addition of a title sponsor, we will continue to remain one of the region's top events." "A primary component of our tournament's efforts is to support our local charities," said Jim Kline, tournament director for the Legends Reno-Tahoe Open. "We have a winning combination with RED Development as our title sponsor and our continued mission to give back to the community and build on the already $1.3 million we've contributed back to hundreds of northern Nevada charities." |
